  • Good Morning Stopped snowing for now. There's a good three inches on the ground. I'm waiting to hear from my eldest son about Harry. Keep safe

      • Good morning all. No snow here, just rain and it's bitterly cold. Flo, I hope you get good news.
        stay warm and safe all.

        • Morning all.

No snow here, but rain due later.

Hope you get good news soon, Flo.

As for here, I've got lots of my plate. We had unexpected visitors yesterday, so I didn't get anything like as much done as I hoped. Lovely to see them, though. Unfortunately, I've woken up with a stinking cold, so am unlikely to get much done today either. But there's always tomorrow.

Have a great day, everyone. Stay warm and safe.

          • Good morning.

The snow seems to have turned to a fine sleet now. Everything looks very clean and pretty with a covering of about 5 inches of snow. There's not a mark in it, in our cul de sac, neither man, beast, bird, nor car has ventured out yet by the look of it.

I'm glad it is not this Sunday for the family meet up as it would not be easy getting to the farm we went to last weekend.

I spoke too soon about the snow turning to sleet. We have big snowflakes again, and they are coming thick and fast.....

I think I might do some baking today. I've found a recipe for crackers online that looks good so I might have a go. I'm still working my way through the Christmas cheese mountain.

            • Mornin n’alln’all

Very wet and windy here and the temperature is 12C at the moment….having struggled to reach 1C yesterday.

Hope everyone with snow is remembering to leave out food and fresh water for the wildlife?
I often forget about the unfrozen water bit

I need to concentrate on getting on top of a few domestics today, so it looks like I’ll be keeping out of mischief.

              Anyone made a snowman yet?

I've just had a look in the fridge. I use the veg drawer for cheese... There's rather a lot of it in there. Crackers are a great idea. And instead of soup for lunch, it had better be burata and salad. I'll make some crackers this afternoon as well. I usually make seed ones, but if you've got an alternative recipe, I wouldn't mind a change.

                • Afternoon

Mostly domestics here today, laundry, hoovering and cleaning.
No snowman Nicos I only nipped into the garden for parsley luckily I’d got some growing in a bucket, that saved me searching in the snow.

                  • Snoop Puss, I made the crackers and sprinkled sesame seeds all over them. They weren't too bad warm, while I was transferring them to a cooling tray, but by the time the were cold they were horrible. I'm glad I only made ¼ of the recipe. I might have a go at another recipe next that is supposed to make Ritz cracker copies. If you've got a good recipe though I'd appreciate a copy.

                    • greenishfing: seed crackers

100 g of bread flour (not too strong - 12.5% protein or so - or any other flour you have hanging around that needs using up)
80 g mixed seeds or any seeds you happen to have.
60 g water (you might need a touch more if you're using a strong flour or wholemeal flour or less if you're using plain flour)
25 g olive oil or other oil of your choice
                      2 g salt
                      2 g bicarbonate of soda

                      Preheat oven to 200 ºC
                      Mix ingredients together.
Roll out between two sheets of baking paper to 2-3 mm thick
                      Brush with olive oil
Use a pizza cutter to cut into portions (no need to separate them, you can bake them as a 'slab' on one of the sheets of baking paper
Stab surface with a fork to stop the crackers from rising
Bake for 15-20 mins depending on how thick you rolled them out
                      Snap apart and enjoy

We love these, as does our dog. I never make just one lot. Depending on the size of your baking sheet, you might get 1.5 times the recipe on. I often do twice the recipe. They keep and freeze very well.

Slow progress for Harry, but he's had one chest drain removed today, so that's a positive

                            • Extremes of weather today, freezing fog, dry and calm on the drive to Perth for Grandsons Birthday breakfast, minus 3 all day, now raining quite heavily and 2 degrees. Forecast cold and dry tomorrow, nothing planned so will probably be in the house most of the day. No sign of any Onions growing yet, which is a tad concerning.
