  • Morning all.

    Good news about Harry, Flo.
And good exercise, mothhawk, walking around, pulling your feet out of clay with a kilo stuck to each foot. I know the feeling...

    Bright today, but very cold.

Anyone else except Mark Rand, Nicos and me doing dry January? I started late (yesterday). I noticed Mr Snoop left a load of wine in his glass yesterday. I'm making him drink all the cheap rubbish while I'm abstaining, poor man. Anyway, so far so good even if it is just the one day!

Plenty on the cards today, but I'm being slowed down by a rubbish internet connection and Missie, who has adopted her usual spot along my arm.

Enjoy the smiles and have a great day, everyone.

    • Good morning all...minus one but bright and sunny.
Dry January...it was our intention..but we are out Saturday night and Sunday night celebrating two family birthdays...other than that we are doing it.
Glad to hear Harry is getting better, even if it's a slow process.
Back to my line dancing this morning, it will be good to get the exercise.
Have a good day all and wrap up well.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

        • Mornin n’alln’all
After a really wet and blustery night we have a bit of a break and the sun is trying to shine through the clouds.

I’ve been looking at the weather in the uk…flood alerts/ ice and heavy snow in parts …keep safe and warm peeps. I hope your homes , gardens and allotments aren’t too badly affected?

More domestics for me today - specifically washing, drying and ironing the lounge curtains . They’re only lightweight so it won’t be too horrendous but it does mean getting the iron out

I best get a wiggle on or they won’t be hung before it’s dark.

          Enjoy your day peeps…

          • Good morning.

It is freezing here, literally. The car resembles an ice cube, all the remaining snow has frozen in ruts, and the pavements look lethal. Evidently we have a 50% chance of more snow in the next hour! I would say that it's far too cold.

I am so glad that I got the extra bottles of milk and wine on Saturday. Unless things warm up and defrost somewhat I am not venturing out yet.

I had originally planned to do a grory hop today but it can wait....unless mother nature presses the defrost button. My shopping list is growing continuously......

Flo, good news that Harry is improving!

mothhawk, be careful in the mud. It's not a good time of year for bog snorkelling! I know what you mean about all the new houses though. Every time I visit the area I was brought up in I am amazed at all the new homes, some of which have been built in fields that I have seen underwater as a child, or where there used to be muck stacks a.k.a. slag heaps from the local pits, which are now defunct. The whole area is prone to subsidence, due to mining, too.

I think I'll investigate the freezer next, to try and find inspiration for our meal tonight.

Try and keep warm and safe everyone.

            • Although the frost has now started to thaw, the snow is still here. Every time a car comes down our cul de sac I can hear it crunch, even through the double glazing. Mr GF has convinced me that there is absolutely no need to go out today. I didn't take much convincing.

Later, before the temperature goes sub zero again I'm going to remove all the remaining snow from the car so that it won't refreeze in situ yet again. We didn't get more snow earlier, but have a 75% chance of more snow in the next hour or so.

Tomorrow morning the (mobile) hairdresser is due. I don't know if she'll get here though.

              • Afternoon All Just back from the hairdressers. Main roads are clear, but most side roads still thick with snow and it's freezing cold. We passed an ambulance that was attending to someone who had fallen on the ice. Don't go out if you don't have to.
                No news yet about Harry.

                • Curtains washed, dried and ironed and rehung!

Feeling quite chuffed…makes quite a difference! It’s amazing how ‘grubby’ they can look with a fine layer of wood ash which has wafted in the air onto them over the past few months.

Lottie…good to hear you are starting to sow seeds. I’m planning on going to a nearby garden centre this week to see if they have any seed potatoes available yet. Is it too early yet in the uk?

                    • Been freezing here all day, didn't stop the roofers from replacing a broken roof tile for us after the wind got under it before Xmas. Onion seeds are showing through, that's a relief.

                      • Good evening.

I made a date and walnut loaf earlier today with some of the medjool dates my sister and brother in law gave me. I had hidden them in the fridge so that I couldn't pig out on them again and make myself ill. When I tasted the mixture, before I put it in the oven, it tasted gorgeous. It has risen and looks like the picture in the Be-ro book. Hopefully it tastes as good as it looks.

I also went out and cleared the frozen snow off the car windscreen. It literally broke in two, and two slabs, each about 2 ft by a foot by a couple of inches thick (60 x 30cm x 5cm) came away in my hands. Since then we have a actually had more snow and it is now starting to freeze hard again.

My shopping list is still growing exponentially. Mr GF says it looks a bit like the Magna Carta, (not that he's ever seen the Magna Carta), he just likes exaggerating.

                        • Evening

We went shopping this morning just walking back into the house as it started snowing, it’s been on and of all afternoon.
Stayed indoors after that, some seed sorting, reading and even tidied my craft room.

                          enjoy your evening

Dark and sploshy at the moment with plenty more rain forecast.
I do need to do a grory hop today so I’m glad it's raining and not icy!

Good call re your windscreen gf. Bet you’re glad you managed to get that done - at least it won’t be so bad when you next tackle it.

Anyone fancy a brew? OH’s just making one so I’ll willingly ask him to pour an extra one….

Enjoy your day peeps and Kerp warm and safe x

                            • Morning all.

I'm just getting to the end of my first cup of tea of the day, Nicos, but I'll gladly have another.

Hope you had a lovely evening, LD. Looks like it's time I broke out my onion seeds if you and burnie are both on the case.

The sun is trying its best this morning, but clouds brewing. No rain forecast for this week. Fingers crossed as it's due to get extremely cold, so would likely be snow, not rain.

Very simple cards for today: more work than I got through yesterday...

                              Have a great day, everyone.

                              • Morning all.

Very frosty today, and no sun in the offing. I hoped it would defrost the car before I do a grory hop, but it seems I shall have to clear the windscreen myself.

My inkjet printer hasn't been printing black. Looking online, it's likely that the nozzle heads were blocked, in spite of doing a print head clean. The alternatives to solve it seemed to be to manually clean the nozzle, which looked a very fiddly and messy job, or buy a new printer. Instead, I opened excel, coloured a page width by two inch deep block of cells black, and printed it out twice. It used a lot of ink, but it cleared the nozzles a treat.
