  • Morning

Very frosty here as well MH, it looks like someone's painted my GH white. No milk deliveries today so I've not been out to check the temperature. That's a good tip about block printing to clear the print heads, when the printers own cleaner hasn't done the job.

    Location....East Midlands.

    • Good morning.

It's -2°C here and I got up and turned the thermostat up earlier, but then jumped back in bed. On checking my phone, which had been on silent mode all night, I discovered a text from the hairdresser, cancelling today's appointment, due to her road being like a skating rink.

I really ought to do a grory hop today, but if there is no thaw, it can wait. (I've still got enough necessaries - milk, cream, wine and bread.) I'm so glad I topped up on Saturday.

It is things I never run out of that are getting low. I opened the last block of parmesan yesterday. I'll be opening the last jar of coffee today. There are only two onions left! I do realise that my definition of low might not be in line with most people.

      • ^That is very definitely running low by my books! Only two onions in the house and I'd be panicking.

          • Snoop Puss, that's why sausage and mash is off the menu until I restock.

When I eventually got up and opened the curtains one of the local blackbirds was glaring at me from the fence, obviously upset that his breakfast was late. I was then watching a whole gang of them fratching over some fatballs. ..... "Fratching". When I was a child my sister and I were forever being told to "stop fratching", arguing and annoying each other. I never hear it now and I don't think I've ever seen it written down. I was just wondering if it's just a Yorkshire/Northern word.

              • Hard frost here today too, hopefully kill a few pests and diseases in the garden whilst it's at it. Clear blue skies, so off to get wrapped up and go for a walk, I may be gone some time is a phrase that springs to mind(not quite Antarctic, but feels close).

                • Not heard of fratching before gf. My parents used to say bickering in that situation, as did both sets of grandparents - and they were mostly originating from the nooorf west

                    • This Xmas I overbought onions, so I very slowly sautéed a pile of them in butter , then put them in the freezer.
They were so handy that I think I’ll start doing that routinely. They had a lovely caramel/ sweet flavour too.

                        • Maybe 'fratching' is/was a local Barnsley word. I have just googled it however, wondering if I'd dreamed it up.

Nicos, that sounds like a brilliant idea for onions.

I am wondering if the local magpies, or one in particular, knows something I don't. I have just watched it doing a very thorough nest inspection on one of last years nests. I think it is being a bit over optimistic, thinking about nesting already, but at least it thinks Spring is on the horizon.
