      • Good morning.

        It's a chilly 4°C and sunny here.

Sorry to hear about your knee, Nicos. Take it easy while it heals. I'm sure the mini eggs will help your recovery. You probably need some extra wine too!

I've just rung my brother in law to see if he's made himself a doctor's appointment. He's waiting for a call back from the surgery so I got off the phone quickly. I'm sure he'll ring me back if he needs a lift to the surgery later.

        • Florence Fennel, after half a century of smeary, awful windows, regardless of method, I found a window vac a complete game changer. The difference, and lack of effort needed, even for my full length mirrored wardrobe doors, is amazing.

            • I've found a sealed tub of plain flour with a date of 2021 would you use it or throw it?

                • I’d have stuck a wet finger in it to see if it tasted sour ( having checked for Vine weevils first of course!)

                  Probably the right call though

It looked ok, smelled ok, tasted ok and was the pre-sieved plain, but I still daren't risk it!

                        • It's a problem isn't it: use it and risk wasting other ingredients. That said, I'm using flour of about that age supplied in plastic bags. Still good.

                          • I'd have thrown it out as well Flo, the other day I found a half bag of couscous in the back of the cupboard from March 2019 that soon went in the bin.

                            • When I saw your post Puss, I thought about answering, but I kept wavering back and forth. I did realise a few weeks ago that my massive bag of whole nutmegs are years out of date. If they weren't whole, they would probably have been binned, but as they are still strong smelling and tasting when I grate them, I will use them up. Other things I have actually binned though. Fresh food I am paranoid about. If it's going to go out of date it gets frozen.

                              • Nicos, hope your knee recovers quickly, did you get the crutches? Or are you hobbling round using the furniture for support? Lots of rest, that's the best cure.

GF, my nutmeg is way past its bbe too, but still tastes good. It's one of my favourite spices and I put it in anything milky, plus a scrape in most soups. It's also a good aid to help sleep as it is mildly soporific, like lavender.
