  • Afternoon all.

Nicos, what a considerate and thoughtful OH you have.
LD, glad you are on the mend at last. These things become so much harder to shake off as we get older.

We also have sleet forecast for tonight, then a day of rain tomorrow. I made a wholemeal loaf today so now I need a suitably chunky, thick soup to go with it. That should keep the cold out. Made a fruit loaf as well, which has been sliced and stashed in the freezer. Then it's easy to take out a couple of slices and toast them, rather than eating the whole loaf in a couple of days. It's also handy for a quick bread and butter pudding.

I've been reading about the Miyawaki method of growing forests or small areas of trees fast. Has anyone else come across it? It seems so sensible when you consider how wild forests grow themselves, all mixed in and growing strong because they have to compete with each other.

    Endless wonder.

      Agreed!

Never heard of the Miyaki method, mothhawk. I shall have to look it up.

As for the smiles, I bet Missie and Frankie were working them up into a state. I had something delivered a while back in a big thick paper bag. Anyway, it's been top toy ever since. It's got a big hole and a huge tear in it from yesterday's ravages, but from today's playing, I reckon they've only only made the bag more attractive.

      Have a great evening, everyone.

      • I too managed to avoid the iron today !

Just sorted out a pile of little jobs which ‘desperately needed doing’ from about a year agoStrange what you can put up with eh?.

We still have huge flakes of snow falling - and the lawns are now almost white- as are the roofs. We are forecast rain at midnight so I’m sort of hoping it’ll be gone by the time we wake up.

Starting to look very pretty though!

I too have never heard of Miyawaki method of planting. I wonder if I can do anything similar on a small scale in my back field?
It’d be good to choose some species of tree which aren’t the ‘bog standard’ locally. Might entice a few different birds etc too!

        • Well, this is something of an awkward situation I messaged my daughter in law to ask her for her bank details so I could send her a little gift as I hadn't put money in her card (I don't risk cash through the post anymore) and her reply was just "thank you xxx". Not sure how to interpret that response !

Maybe send her a gift voucher instead.
We send cash through the post but we print out the envelope so it looks like a business letter.

I used to do that Bramble, until some cards to my son's address went "missing" on more than one occasion.

                    Yeh…. Try again

Out of interest…has anyone else got snow?
We have about 2cm of very wet slush covering everything at the moment.

                    • Morning all.

2 cm of slush isn't nice, Nicos. Hope it improves. Cold, windy and very bright here. The wind is bringing a weather change. Two weeks of drizzle and proper rain are due to start tomorrow. It's going to be very cold too, though no snow, apparently.

Missie might get a visit from her former owner today, seeing as he won't come down in bad weather.

Other than that, a bit of work, I think. And maybe some strimming with Mr Snoop.

As for the smiles today, they went rushing off before Missie and Frankie spotted them. Now she's getting bigger, Missie isn't getting kitten's privileges anymore, even though Frankie is four times her weight at least. So the play-fighting is getting a bit fiercer. Not so much fun for the smiles at the moment.

Though Missie is definitely up for it and constantly provokes Frankie.

                      Have a great day, everyone.

No slush here Nicos just all day rain so I'll be mostly indoors today, apart form a bit of seed sowing in the GH.

                        enjoy your day

                          • Mornin n’alln’all

All the slush is completely gone! It was there at 2am so it must have rained or something. Still bitterly cold though.
Don’t ya just love the metallic smell in the air though when there is snow on the ground?
                            I wonder why that happens?

I may nip out later for more butter- forgot to put it on the shopping list. I do have what I consider ‘cooking butter’ which is perfectly good, but not as tasty (nor expensive)

It’s great to hear that Missie is literally bouncing back. Sounds like she’s giving Frankie a run for his money

No real plans for this weekend. I won’t be helping OH, but he collected a trailer full of black , organic manure yesterday which will need unloading by hand( well…..spade )

So many little jobs needing doing so I may well crack on with those, although I keep thinking I fancy a day working on my family tree in all honesty. Maybe that could be my reward tomorrow if I crack on with jobs today?
One thing for sure though…I’ll start my sweet peas off chitting!

Whats everyone else up to today?

                            Whatever it is..enjoy yourselves

                              • Good Morning All Ner Sner here Nicos it's raining. It was me who read the message wrong - the bank details are in a little box above the text. I'm not as computer savvy as I thought! I think my eldest son is bringing Harry to see me tomorrow. He's doing much better now thank goodness. Have a good day
