  • What's your pallet projects

I am a firm believer in recycled pallet wood.

There are many uses for this wood, mine are as follows..

    1) Raised bed borders
    2) Smaller bases for a grow bag
    3) A small deck to stand pots on
    4) Seed trays
    5) Growing troughs

In the back of my mind I have and idea for a chicken coop but not persued that yet

What has anyone else used them for ??

I built a shed last year almost entirely out of second-hand materials apart from a few new screws. About 70% of it was wood from pallets used to make the sides, doors and some supports in the roof. About 10' square and 9' high at the front with a single pitch roof covered in zinc sheets. It should easily last 50 years, I reckon :-)

This year's main project has been rebuilding an old dry stone wall, using cement in some parts to strengthen it. Not much use of pallets there, apart from a few short pieces for shuttering at one stage. These are now back drying out in the wood shed to be used as firewood later, which is where I use most of the pallet wood.

the sort of barn come shed on my old allotment is built entirly from pallet wood so everything is in multiples of 3 ft or so its a work of art but its also going rotten in a couple of places now. and the front is covered with steel sheeting with two metal framed windows in its incredible.

I need a new gate for the archway down to the veg patch at home and this one will probably end up being pallet wood.

Not garden related but OH made this for me a few years ago

The idea was that everything on there could be composted. As you can see they sold out quickly!

In the garden we have a triple bay compost heap but not really been adventurous otherwise.

            Nice thread Jimmy!

              Very good.
I think allotments are the ultimate in recycling centres.
