Whilst all the spammers annoy me just as much as everybody else (do they actually get enough out of it to make it worthwhile?) is it really right to ban somebody for having a name that simply seems a bit strange / iffy. If they've not posted then there isn't really any evidence that they're a spammer, there's loads of people on here that have never posted and some of them probably have strange names.

A lot of it is to do with getting google hits Alison. As we are a popular site, any spam posted here gets lots of hits via the search engines and shoots up the rankings so to speak. Secondly, Without exception, the gobledegook names all have ip addresses that originate in places like Eniewetok and Kwajelein. Not really hot spots of gardening and with no real links to the UK but bigtime linked with spammers.

That sounds reasonable, I don't tend to look at people's profiles much (except when I click on the wrong bit by accident!) and I assume that's where you mean the web address is listed and obviously don't see the IP address bit. Was just a bit worried that it sounded a bit big brother-esque but should have known you'd be on top of it

Well they're certainly not a firm of Solicitors with names like that.............which remeinds me of another well known firm of Solicitors ...............Haddaway & Shite!
