Alternatively Lynda, pop across and see me for a few days, its a balmy 38 today, and the aircon in my room is flat out trying to cool it down.

Running the central heating really is to expensive. I am in on my own most of the day so only put heating on when family come home in the evening. For the rest of the day I just have a little fan heater that I use to keep the room I am in warm. It seems silly to warm the whole house when I'm only using one room most of the day.

If in the evening we light the open fire the central heating is turned off then as well. Our open fire is fueled largely using wood that I scrounge from skips. Often when I am taking stuff to the dump there will be someone there dumping wood. I just ask them to dump it into the back of my car instead of a skip. I have not purchased logs for at least the last four or five years. Do sometimes buy a little coal for when it is very cold.

Don't go cold lynda. At least try and make sure the room you are using is kept warm.

me too. I wear hat, scarf and big fleece indoors till Himself gets home. He likes to sit in his pants with the CH hoiked up, but he's learning

Watch those leccy fan heaters .. they aren't energy efficient. Check your meter, & work out how much it's really costing you.

i do have a couple of oil filled radiators that i normally use, they cost about 25p an hour to run whereas the central heating costs 52p an hour, was just soooooo cold today, i wanted the rest of the house warm instead of just the living room, but as the heating isn't working it's back to the oil filled lol ..... i always have a fluffy blanky in winter, and only use extra heating when the fire isn't enough, the heating is cheaper than the fire on full blast ....... and it really is flipping cold ........ just starting to thaw out now lol ........ i had card meters put in when i moved in here, so i can keep on top of the bills, so if theres not enough on the meter i don't use it ...... was a nightmare when i had bill meters lol

Oh Lynda! I hope you've warmed up a bit by now! You make me feel guilty! We have an open fire and oil CH. and I insist on being warm at the W/E, tho I put my padded gilet on during the week if I'm at home. I work in a hospital so it's always red hot there, going nesh in my old age! We do collect wood from the countryside round here and save our prunings from the garden tho.

Ouch, 52p per hour is very expensive for your heating, it might be worth you looking at whether you can get any better insulation installed, my mum has just had her loft insulated for free on some OAP scheme and there are others for low earners or various groups of people, worth a look. Also, I assume you know that the card meters cost a lot more than a meter, I remember some years ago when I went from a card one to a standard meter my bills dropped dramatically without any reduction in consumption. Hadn't realised how much I was being ripped off until then.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

yeah brand new radiators and boiler last year too ...... flipping rubbish lol (especially as this is about the 5th time it has stopped working) ....... all the insulation has been done, roof and cavity walls, and i'm with ebico, for my gas and leccy, the only company that charges the same for meters as for bills, been stung by british gas till i realised in the past too ...... anyway have been out in the garden and a bit of digging has got me nice and warm now and gonna have a nice stew for tea,

even psycho is happy, cos she's just had a nice run round in the polytunnel, and has a big pile of cabbage in her house
