Who else has a horse/pony?

I used to have. She was a 14.1 New forest mare. One thing I would say about native ponies is pick your fights, they can be incredibly stubborn as well as very smart!

Incidentally I just booked a riding lesson, first time on a pony in about a year! Gonna hurt

This is our second pony, we already have a 'family' pony, 14hh 11 years old new forest mare but she is too strong for the little one who wants to do gymkhana. It will be nice to be able to hack out together too. The added bonus of horses is of course all the manure for the allotment! I have been off work with a 'breakdown' the past month and I have found that the horses have given me a reason to go on and a manageable routine which has to be achieved.

They are wonderful for that arent they? When I was ill, (mad ) having to go check the pony and poo pick was the only thing that got me out some days.

Yes, I think you'll find there are lots of horse-owners on here!

I've got a sixteen year old thoroughbred gelding, who I've had since he was five. He follows me round the yard, like a dog, and takes mints from my mouth - very un-hygienic I know!

I also look after two cobs and a little welshy for the people who own the place, as their daughter has lost interest, and it means I don't have to pay livery.

As for your welshy, they're lovely little things but can be 'pushy' if you let them. Our one is 11.3 and thinks he's 18 hands.

I now have one - we bred our own working hunter ponies for years and I am left with possibly last of the line. He is beautiful and it is a great shame that though he is 16 he has never been broken in (I was abroad when this should have been done and there was nobody else around to do it). About 14 hands Welsh cross Arab - and pink!!!

I knew an 'old boy' who was the same cross, quiet as a baby in the stable, perfect gentleman, A1 at dressage, but take him out in the 'real world' and he thought he was bl**dy Nijinsky - no brakes whatsoever.

The woman that owned him would take him out occasionally, and he would come back covered from head to foot in froth - looked like an iced cake LOL!

Anyway, 16's not too old - if he's got no problems give it a go, you never know!

Only just seen this, but I've got a 12hh ish exmoor called Henry and a Shetland companion for him, called Branston or 'Little B'. So-named as I knew a pony called Pickle at the time I found him, abandoned in a field near mine.

Here are the little critters! I ride Henry for miles and miles (record - 5hr 20mins) and it's ME that gets knackered. Have thought about growing up a few times and getting a 'proper horse', but I couldn't part with this little chap and he gets where the biggies don't (down the deer tracks on the Forestry!).
