ID please

Is this a pieris? it has flowers like a pieris (lily of the valley shaped) and orange berries. The wall is five feet high. Certainly a glorious shrub!

Are the fruit a bit spiky and the flowers almost closed at the bottom? Looks to me a bit like a strawberry tree, Arbutus unedo.

I can't get up closer than the picture as someone's front garden is in the way, but I think your identification is right, Snoop, it's an arbutus, not a pieris. It did seem over large for a pieris, plus wrong flowering time. Thanks.

They're attractive trees at this time of the year because you get the flowers and fruit at the same time, plus the fruit change from bright yellow to bright red. The fruit don't make for good eating for humans, but the birds will have a good go at them. Very useful at this time of year for them. Plus the flowering season is quite long and if you have a warm spell that brings the bees out, they will make a beeline for it (sorry, once I'd thought it, I couldn't not say it...). We have quite a lot growing wild here. Not in such good condition as one that is tended, but still a nice sight.
