The First of……2023

All my spring bulbs are in bud.
I have been culling excess teasel seedlings that were overcrowding the border. The birds failed to eat the seeds when i left the seed heads up for them.

I’ve got snowdrops and primulas almost in flower.

My crocus & snowdrops are in flower now,also the viburnum x bodnantense Charles Lamont has clusters of flowers like blossom,I should find out how to prune it to make bushier if that can happen. None of my nemesia flowers survived that cold winter (that’s a first for as long as I’ve grown it) but there’s lots of green seedlings so that’s really good

I had a red tailed bumble bee keeping me company today. Not sure if it was a Queen but it had an amazingly orange rear end.

Also caught sight of my first butterfly - just a quick flash of orange in the distance.

I heard my first bumblebee this morning. Plus our first mosquito in the bedroom. We and the deaf cat on the bed were all shocked at the mosquito, especially the cat, as she clearly couldn't believe her eyes.

There has been a period of anticipation but finally the crocuses came out all at once.

It was a corm I saved after it was duh up during some ground work. It did very little of interest last year.
It was quietly forming a clump under the soil.

At last the tulips I planted in November are just peeping through. Hope they catch up with their companions the Grape Hyacinths so they all flower together
