  • Earth Day 2023

I’ve only just realised that today is the day

Is anyone aware of activities in their area?

I’m already very conscious of my footprint on the planet but realise there’s always more I can do to reduce it.
Today being Earth Day, I’ll do at least a couple of things specifically to contribute.

Firstly I’m going to go through my flower seed box and sow more flower seeds- particularly bee and butterfly/ moth friendly ones.
Then this evening, as I missed Earth Hour last month, we’ll only use candles after dark until bedtime - both this evening and tomorrow evening.
Also - as we have rain forecast later - I’ll make a bigger effort to sort out things for charity over this weekend.
We have a few insect hotels which could do with a bit of a refurbish….
Theres loads of comfrey and young nettles along the grass verges- I’ll get some nettle tea and comfrey tea on the go too.

It’s always good to be incentivised isn’t it?

Yep - I’ll focus on being even more planet friendly particularly this weekend.

Anyone thought of anything else they want to do for the weekend which they don’t usually do?

We’ve decided to freeze the turkey we were going to eat tonight ( substitute with mushrooms) and go veggie until next Friday.
We eat quite a few veggie meals- on and off - but never done 7 days in a row.

Also we’ve agreed to a weekend of “…yellow - let it mellow” during the day. We always do that at night but not during the day. Might do it for longer- we’ll see.

What good ideas Nicos Himself wouldn't tolerate veggie week, but we can certainly try a Donovan when we're not expecting visitors!

I'm afraid I haven't planned to do anything different this weekend. I shall ponder on the matter... Thanks for the reminder.

^^^nope , but I did see this about IKEA candles…

”Ikea candles are not made of paraffin. Ikea candles are made of a 100% plant-based renewable wax blend. This wax blend is composed of vegetable and mineral waxes, such as rapeseed and soybean wax.
The wax does not contain palm or paraffin, making it an eco-friendly option. Additionally, Ikea candles are made without additives such as dyes and synthetic fragrances. Instead, the candles are lightly scented with essential oils and fragrances sourced from natural ingredients.“

Mine are the plain ones though without fragrance , so I presume they will be the same? Well I hope so!
