mmm yes,i can remember as a child having to go outside, upsome steps and across the yard to the loo,and news paper hanging on a string, any time of year, with a guzunda for night, and i guess we were lucky to others as dad heated up fire bricks in the oven on the old black kitchen range, this was wraped in news paper then a bit of old sheeting,my DH says used to get the oven shelf heated up to warm his bed.
In the late 60's when we were first wed i can well remember the frosted patternes on the windows, but funnyly enough do not recall being really cold as we do now were older, only of a morning, can also recall getting dressed under the bed covers ,perhaps the blood thins down with age, brrrr bring on central heating.
