So they can go and get them selves killed in Afghanistan.
I got to go to Germany to see the forces on patrol along the East / West German border and camp out for a night with them, spent 10 days in Marchwood military port at the time Chriss Akabussi was there (he was a PTI and took us for our morning runs)
Learned the skills of marksmanship(shooting) , fieldcraft (camping and hiking) and navigation (map and compass).
We also had to look after our huts - clean and polish them every day and learn how to keep our uniforms clean, tidy and ironed ( no mean feat for a 14 year old ).
It was teambuilding, disipline and personal development and what ever other sound bites that the government has come up with since but it was good fun to.
I certainly don't regret my time there and would recomend it to anyone. There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

I get where Bubblewrap is coming from, last BIG intake got sent to the falklands, and its been downhill from there.
And cadets is a far cry from the real thing, that can do a lot of damage to those that serve, and i don't mean physically, but coming back out into civi street, not all have the tools to cope, and they get less than no help.
I think we all want better for our children than what we have seen develop over the last 20 years.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

X+Y= G meant nothing to me at school - I never passed a maths exam while I was there but when I was at Agri college I got a Distinction in accounts because I "got it" when we were talking about cows + milk quota = money
Supose it's ironic that I ended up working in a school as a groundsman.
While I respect teachers and the job they do I can't get my head round the fact that some of them left school went to teacher training college and got a job in a school and have absolutely no experience of the working enviroment that they are supposedly preparing kids for . How can you prepare a child for something you have never really experienced yourself. There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. i have a child in his first GCSE year, in the last three months only ONE teacher has set any homework, ONE!! she is 60, a french teacher, old school, believes homework should be beyond work done in class, and detention if you dont do it.This is despite me complaining constantly for two years that he is not being set sufficient homeworkl.
the rest rely on a computerized homework system, which they don't mark, or even check if the child has logged on, this I know for a fact, because he still hasn't been given the password by any teacher to log on with, and noone has noticed.
I am currently in dispute with the school only one teacher has in TWO years replied until this week, and thats was the same french teacher, the maths teacher emailed me and told me the homework is up on the computerized site, despite being asked which tier callum should be working on, and what the password is, he neglected to reply to the email specifically.Even His form teacher has tried to get a reply from her own colleagues several times without success. I am at a loss, next week i shall attend the school, and they will wish thay hadn't let it go that far.Last edited by BrideXIII; 08-12-2008, 08:55 PM.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

you can either take quick offence, or see the REAL underlying support for people who try against the odds to do a job which is no longer about what teaching should be.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

Teacher had a beaming smile on his face though.......sadistic git!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
