What is it with restaurants. I’ve recently been made deputy mayor of our town. Our new mayor isn’t too keen on the social events so they fall to me. Sometimes they are meals but a lot of the time I eat before or after an event at a restaurant. Nearly every time I’m served kale. Today it was the only green vegetable. I know it’s full of iron and is good for me, but when I’m paying extortionate amounts I don’t want something that tastes disgusting and has the constituency of rubber. As a farmers widow we grew it as cattle fodder and as far as I’m concerned that is all it’s good for. What happened to green beans, cabbage, peas, broccoli, cauliflower etc. nearly a third of my plate was this horrible veg. Rant over. I think next meal in a restaurant I’ll specify no kale, but there’s nothing I can do about the set event meals where they only ask for your preference re meat, fish or vegetarian not what accompanies it.

I love kale Janie- particularly if it’s flash fried in butter.
Having said that, it’s not good for any restaurant to have so little choice with their veg. Is it a cheaper option?
