  • Christmas Tree

On saturday afternoon we went to get a christmas tree and found a pine one in homebase for £9.99p great we thought it looked fine, got home and put it in the stand after oh had cut a bit off the bottom and it was brown, dead a few branches up, we took it back and got our money back. The chap said to my OH I will wrap that for you. My OH said no you wont we have brought it back. While he was sorting out the refund I went to have a look at the others, some I couldnt see at all they were in the dark, but some were in the light and they were so brown, I dont know how they have the cheek to sell them like that. We went to B & Q the next day and bought a normandy fir for £14. 98. I wanted to put it up on saturday night cos the inlaws were coming for lunch on sunday.

I once read you can feed a tree with viagra to stop the needle drop... but prob doesn't work if it's already dead!

The cheek of it, I'd have sent mine back too.

Didn't you get to see it open before you got it, in garden centres and the last time i got from B and Q they open them up so you can see the shape and condition then re net it for you using the machine.

we went looking for a Christmas Tree 'farm' near us last weekend but we couldn't find it any where, we were just resigning ourselves to having to go to a garden centre when we saw a small sign 'fresh christmas trees' or similar. Turned in and there's a man standing by a field of trees - have a wander round he says, choose the one you like and then decide whether you want it cut or dug up.

We opted for dug - paid him a tenner and off we went.

Was reading in the paper today about a bloke who rents Xmas trees. Have copied article out cos I couldn't find it online to do a link.

Green fingered Martin Cake has branched out for the festive season - renting Christmas trees. For £25 he will deliver 6ft trees to customers' doors then collect them after Twelfth Night. He will nurture them for a year so they can be rented out again the following Christmas. 'The process can be repeated year after year with the same family having the same tree time and time again.' Martin, 41, of Dorchester, Dorset says: 'I've rented out 300 so far. They are better than fake trees from China which harm the environment when they are thrown away.

i used to buy rooted trees every year, then plant them somewhere ....... they always died ....... think the ones you get at garden centre etc already in a pot, haven't been dug up properly if the roots are damaged too badly they won't live

And are you sure it was his field? Be funny if the real farmer turned up the next day and all his trees had gone.

                      LOL
