We had to go and visit mum quire late yesterday evening and both on the way there and back (we came home a different route) we were 'treated' to the sight of a fair few Christmas Houses - you know, the ones that can be seen from space - so how come some can look really quite pretty and some would bring house prices down for several streets in all directions? I mean, they all seem to be using the same lit-up reindeer and Santa's on the roofs.

I believe there is a house near us that decorates the inside of their house to monumental proportions then invites people in to have a look, takes donations and gives proceeds to charity. Not sure if I like this idea or not.
There is only one house in our street with xmas lights - OURS!
We have lanterns round the garage, a star curtain in the bay window, coloured lights round the front door, and flashing ones in my son's room.
We do ours cos the children like it (that's my excuse anyway! )

we have an entire cresent near us, can't remember what the road is actually called, cos its now known locally as 'xmas close', every house ( about 20) do theirs and their gardens, and everyone goes to visit in the evenings and they do collections for charity.
we go every year to see all the stuff they do, its wonderful. i'll try to find some pics from last year, if not i'll take some more this year.
I often wonder if when houses get bought there they have to sign an agreement to join in, cos every house does itLast edited by BrideXIII; 13-12-2008, 03:25 PM.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

There was a simlilar road near us before we moved. They used to do charity collections, but their problem was that as people moved on fewer houses participated. We went back last year and there were only 4 in the whole road, a big disappointment.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Jings, they're pretty spectacularly lit up Nicos.
I never used to like them, but now I think winter is so dark any lights are welcome.
There's one house near me with the house and garden lit up and it looks very pretty.
I might get some lights for next year.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Read of one bloke who has had a seperate supply & meter installed for his front garden so he can do his lights.
We are supposed to be getting greener, more responsible with what we do, to care for the environment, councils are even considering shutting off street lights, but each year more and more people waste electricity and pollute their surroundings with these tacky displays.
As you might gather I loathe these tawdry collections of tat, burning up electricity.
Oh and as for the "charidee" excuse, just donate the cost of running the lights.Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.
