Parental control - or lack of it

Aarrgghh - having a bad day. woke up this morning to find son hadn't logged off last night - opened up to see the porn sites he'd been browsing - he's 15. Sprang into action and set up parental control for his account, then logged out of mine. Now I can't remember my administrator password and so I'm on his account - with all the pesky parental controls! Can't get into mine. Anyone know how I can get round this? Apart from anything else, I will need access to my account for work - yikes!!

All info/ advice gratefully recieved, whether about kids or pooters - (it's a PC, vista home premium).

PS - it is Saturday night so I have until 11pm til I get kicked off!!

its hard too accept
i ended up rebooting 2 computers that day and putting in new passwords

It's grim isn't it! I bet you remembered your passwords tho! I have spent hours trying all my usual ones and am at a complete loss.

i gave up with the parental controls on mine totally did my head in, I put in a password so he couldn't get on the pc unless i was there ..... mine was 14 ....... the pc was in the living room, so he couldn't do anything without me seeing (he'd just taken advantage while i was out) ....... he knew the reasons for it and accepted what he did was wrong ..... and suffered the consequences of only being allowed on certain times of the day

Zazen - some of those images were not normal, and I'm not at all sure they were all legal - but yes, I suppose my son probably is...God, how depressing!

Lynda - I did the same as you - but now I have the same restrictions as my son as I can't get into the adult administrator account - only his - at least he was kind enough to give me his password, after a few threats of further groundings. After 11pm I won't be allowed on again til tomorrow afternoon...

it was easy in xp if you forgot it , unfortunately, vista was set up to combat the ease of getting in without a password ..... why on earth did you not write it down?? lol ..... go and have a cuppa, and forget about it, then later when you've chilled, it may come back to you

Yes, it's normal to be curious about sex ... but what you see on the Net isn't normal.

I don't like it - not because it offends me (there's not much that shocks me), but because p0rn teaches men the wrong things about sex, and about women. It can also make them very bad l0vers ... it ain't all just like drilling for oil y'know, guys

Exactly the same thing happened to us, son was 12. I couldnt remember password and I think I had to do a complete reinstall. That is seriously drastic so for heavens sake dont do it till you have spoken to a techy.
It is normal though, distressing but normal

I hate passwords - got to the stage now where I use one for everything, except at work where the system forces you to change your password every month. There I keep alternating between 2. Another pet hate is PIN numbers. I get the cold sweats every time I have to put mine into the machine - anyone know how many different combinations you can get out of a four digit number?????

It's the security door pads that get me, because I move around to different offices each week I now have to use 7 different ones and it's driving me insane!! But with passwords and PIN numbers aswell I suppose it's taking over from all the phone numbers I used to be able to remember which are now stored in my mobile and I don't have to think about. Perhaps it'll be good for our brains in the long run!

For PIN numbers think of a four word phrase that means something to you:

my mum is great
this card is silver (handy if you have more then one card - but predictable)
twenty three high street
year one pringle school,

or whatever, then your PIN becomes that phrase, numbers for words - therefore the top phrase converts into the PIN:

2325, the
4426 etc.

Have to use words with less than 10 letters though.

Hope someone comes through with a solution Gro-bag.
