  • Tree Identification

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know what type of tree this is?
Seen in Cadiz, Spain for reference.

    Thanks!

Looking at the bark and leaves it is a plane/platanus tree, but I don't know which species exactly.
    Location: London

I looked up the plane trees they have in Cádiz and I reckon it's likely to be this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platanus_%C3%97_hispanica

There are lots of these trees (45,000) in Barcelona and the council there is replacing them due to the many complaints they've received about allergies.

They feed through there leaves from bus smoke and do not rip up tarmac like those jack-hemmer rooted ornamental cherry trees do.
They used to feed on coal smoke and soot when they were first planted.
We don't get many complaints about the fruit dust here due to our wet climate but there have been city councils that have been cutting them down prior to pollution surveys so that bus smoke pollution can be used as an excuse to introduce traffic light tax under various names.
I have managed to find a link to a photo that was taken while they were fixing a car consuming pothole.

I could only get my own photo of the same tree from the middle of the road while the whole junction was closed for a very vocal parade to pass through.
