  • Moving house at Christmas

A few weeks ago we agreed to buy a small house which 'needed some work' doing to it. The buying process has dragged on and on and here I am surrounded by packing boxes with considerably more grey hairs, the removal date well past and it looks as if we shall move in a few days before Christmas! My OH is working all day on Christmas day so the puppy and I will be in our new house on the big day with a lot of boxes. Oh well I have just been told 'it is just another day'.
    Happy Christmas everyone
    Stella
PS how will santa find me?

Dont worry Stella, I'll tell the big fella you've moved.
My daughter has just moved in to her new place. They were really sweating on getting it done before the big day, as it will be the first xmas that my grandkids can really appreciate that christmas is special.
I'm sure you and the puppy will have a great christmas day in your new home.

I hope you will be very happy in your new home Stella. Yes, everything will be a shambles but it doesn't matter. You can enjoy getting it all sorted out and taking shape. And this Christmas will be just a bit "special".

Good luck with your house move stella. I agree with FrostyFreckle, but most importantly make sure you know where the bottle opener is!

We moved the week before christmas 5 years ago, not something we chose to do but it made everything an adventure! Plus new neighbours took pity on us and were really kind so made good friends with them quite quickly! Have a celebration for the new year instead?

Hi we were meant to move in november last year and it kept getting moved (we were all packed and ready to go) and had to unpack stuff to have xmas at the old house, with 8 extra guests. We eventually moved on 8th Jan. I was a very stressful time! I had to borrow plates and stuff as ours were all packed and I refused to open all the boxes!

My mum moved into her house 30 years ago on xmas eve! And still had the troops round the enxt day - bonkers or what!

Am sure this time next year you will be able to laugh at the situaltion - in the meantime, take heart in the fact that Father Christmas will know where you are regardless!

Many thanks for all your advice, it helps. Still packing though just in case we actually do move. Do I really need all these old copies of Gardeners world/weekly/monthly that I have kept just in case I want to try growing something that I have never heard of and certainly never eaten before?
PS just been asked the question 'whats the difference between a pixi and an elf'.

We moved into our last place in the middle of January - the previous Tennant had moved out on boxing Day! She had two kids under six years of age. She chose the date!

                      What's that all about?

Ahh this time last year my house hadnt even been finished! We gave notice on our rented house to move into our brand new home, i was determined, the builders were shattered. They had been working 20 hours a day to get it done. It was panic stations towards the end, i was watching every bit of paint go on the walls and things were still not done (you get the picture) Anyway i couldnt wait anymore, i have three kids, family were visiting for xmas and on the 22nd Dec we moved in around the builders!!! I managed to unpack, put the tree up and be relatively settled by the 25th. Boy i sure did move, i was completely shattered but happy.

This time last year, my plumbing hadnt been done, my porch hadnt been built, the floors weren't laid, the doors werent on, the boiler hadnt been put in!

Good luck, we always find the strenght from somewhere....
