Do you tell other people's children off?

I once asked one of my wife's friends to deal with her daughter's bad behaviour whilst at our house (kicking a screaming, tearing about and generally trying to wreck the place). When she wouldn't I politely told her to leave. They have never been invited back.

I won't put up with my children behaving like that. I certainly won't let someone else's.

Similarly the one who came to sleep and went wild running around Tesco's. When her parents asked if she'd been good I told them straight that she was a little so and so, but they thought I was joking and still wonder why she doesn't get invited for sleep overs anymore.

Saying that we do have regular sleep overs and see alot of other peoples kids, but they tend to be the better behaved ones, and we've not had any complaints about our kids, and they always get invited back. Some parents just don't know how to enforce boundaries.

I tell other people's children off, but only if I know the parent. My friend is quite happy for me to tell her son if he's doing something wrong, as sometimes they do get carried away and go into 'holiday mode' when they're in somebody else's house.

Thanks all. I am just glad we don't see them very often (now that does sound mean-spirited!)

I have a circle of friends with children the same age and as they have all grown up together we all tend to tell each other's children off, but thankfully they know the boundaries anyway so not really an issue. I am happy for anyone to tell my children off if they are doing naughty thigns and I haven't spotted t.
The poeple who came yesterday were the kind of parents who like to shut the door on their kids and let them make as much mess/noise as possible as long as they don't have to see it or deal with it so they can chat with grown-ups.
Err hello!! If you've got children you need to be keeping an eye on them!

Funnily enough it did make me appreciate how well-behaved mine are and I ave them a big cuddle and told them how proud I was. My little boy was at pains to tell me what he did and didn't participate in! He even went as far to ask if next time they come round certan fave toys can be put away so they don't play with them! And he's only 4!

The good news is the next visit will be at their house so I can leave the mess to them lol

I was a nanny for years and have absolutely no qualms about telling off other people's children (even if I don't know the parents - I don't lay into random children in supermarkets though).
If the parents can't/wont control or discipline the child in my house then I jolly well will.

My house/my rules also, the kids learn to respect it and once they know the rules then I don't have problems with them. Start as you mean to go on.

'My house, my rules' here too... and to be honest, all my kids mates LOVE coming here, they know exactly where they stand, and what i will tolerate and what i won't, they get to have fun, with limited boundaries, they have to be polite (no swearing, please and thankyou), quieter than a nuclear bomb, and any agression towards each other and they have to go home, and don't get to come back.
some of the younger mothers round here say 'why do they always behave so well for you?', i just say ' oh its cos they don't know me '

kids appreciate boundaries, and are made to rebel against rules, you gotta know where the line is, just so's you can stick ya toe across it
