Hi I introduced myself back in April after being ill for sometime, I had some mates cover my lottie with black plastic in 2007 and it is still covered now. I wrongly thought I was better over did it and had a little setback but now passed fighting fit. I went to the lottie for the first time since May and my mates have got me a shed and a few window frames for a greenhouse so my first job is to site them. they also filled a compost bin up for me too. I am hoping the work will get me fit again. I am new to growing so I will probably asking all sorts of questions. I might as well start now. Is it best to keep my lottie covered or should I uncover and dig it over before spring?

If it were mine ...
...if it is clay soil and if it isn't too wet then dig it over and let the frost do some good to break it down a bit... hopefully most of the weeds are sleeping now

Welcome back, glad you're feeling better now.

If you feel up to it, I'd uncover some of the lottie and dig it over and shove a load of manure on it ready for planting spuds next year. Then take it bit by bit, uncover, dig over, and let the frost break down the clumps and kill off the weed roots that's exposed.

Someone else will no doubt be along in a bit and tell you what you really have to do

Little bit at a time sounds ok. Good luck with it, and your mates sound like the best sort!!

No problem leaving it, but might be best to do a small amount at a time if the soil is dry enough. ( if it sticks in clumps to yr wellies or the spade, then cover it back up again and spend yr time planning what and where!
