From the old French for decorative groove, that's true, LD, but colloquially in dialect from 1700's, it has another meaning, not related to metal-working.

No doubt many of us swaged into a slumbering zwodder after Christmas lunch, while contemplating what to do with the wonderclouts we may have received.
