I'm just not convinced that IE will be as secure as its supposed to be, even after the fix.
it wont be, I know that, you know that, the flamin developers know that, the point is there are thousands of users out there trusting them, and its not fair.

all i can say, hand on heart, is use IE if you like it, but NEVER use it for secure stuff like banking, install an alternative browser like FF or chrome, safari or opera, use that only for secure stuff, browse sites like this to your hearts content in IE, but never trust it.

who's to say that FF or Chrome or any other is secure?

The point is though nothing is 100% secure, BUT with most of the world using IE7( or older version) that where is people will spend their time looking for holes/back doors etc as it will reap the most. Having morethan 1 browser makes sense, but sadly I still prefer IE

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

well thats the point, you have hit the nail on the head.

firefox and chrome, safari etc, do have issues, the first two however are open source, constantly being reviewed and recoded by the tech community, doesn't make them better, just makes it more likely that holes will be found and closed quicker.
IE is used buy 80 something % of PC users ( not macs), therefore thats the platform thats going to get exploited if there is a loophole cos it reaches more users.
most popular is not always the best but it will always be the most targeted.
I still prefer IE too, but being aware, makes it safer, you choose when, you choose what, you watch your back.

          • I have used Firefox for a few years now as, when I used Internet Explorer, I always has loads of rubbish to delete when I did disc or registry cleanups. I heard some bloke from Microsoft on the radio saying that it did not affect users with Windows Vista, so that again is good news for me. I'm a bit paranoid and probably do overdo the virus and spyware checks, but I have, over the years, had some real nasties appear, but always got rid before any real problems appeared.

As per my earlier post, the patch was released at 6PM GMT on the 17th. If you go to Microsoft and check for updates then you can get it straight away, as I did at about one minute past six. If you just leave things to happen naturally then it can take a while before you get it. If you have auto update switched on then it will check periodically. Basically it's not a case of M$ pushing it out to the millions of machines in the world, it's a question of your machine dialing home to see if there are any messages.

To elaborate further, M$ normally issue updates on what is referred to by some geeks as "patch Tuesday", which is the 2nd Tuesday of each month. So if, like Bride, you have it set up to download but not install you will often find the little yellow shield on your taskbar on the second Wednesday of each month telling you that updates are available. This issue has caused such a stink that M$ have made an exception to the "patch Tuesday" cycle.

              Hope this helps

              • hot stuff is on the ball, i had to go into the control panel and run update maually, or i dont get it till january, if you have auto tho, swtich the pute off, switch it back on, and it will do it. either way, if you dont get any of this, dont panic, if you turn your pute off at night, it will be with you in the next day or so.

                • Just also discovered that I can't log into my works web portal on FF - no idea why but it just doesn't work.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
