  • Unusual xmas pressies you've had?

I've had some corkers, esp from M-in-law.

Last year I had a mans large (I'm only small now) grey dressing gown. From Tesco. So I took it back. To be told it was so old it wasn't even registering on their computer as it was from the pre-cherokee days! No idea where she got it from as it was still in packet.

I have said several years running I'd rather have nothing if she can't put in more thought than that. The annoying thing is I am not allowed to get her useless old tat as OH doesn't like it. I normally end up with a dustbin bag of stuff that goes straight to the charity shop. Madness!

Will post here on the 26th as to what I get this year!

Worst present for me was a Secret Santa one. Somebody got me a miniature Tarot card set. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in tarot cards, so that went to the charity shop. For the first two years I was with OH, I got scarf and gloves from his Mum. She KNOWS that I have horses and so the 3 quid cheap sets from Asda are hardly going to hold up. I politely passed on the message last year - no gloves or scarves please - and it worked!

This year I have specified NO ornaments (they get me loads of chintz every year), NO tat and even wrote a Christmas wish list for OH and his family. I said that if there's anything they'd like me to have but they don't want to spend that much, just get me a voucher and I'll put up the rest.

If that doesn't yield wanted pressies, I give up!

Still not got them anything though! Help!

OH's grandparents always get us something odd...

A couple of years ago we had some 'novelty' Christmas table items from them - a Father Christmas cake-slice, candle-holder table centrepiece and napkin rings, all with cheap resin Father Christmas figures on it (from Avon I think). They were freecycled in the new year.

We've also had a really cheap and nasty candle set from them - 'glass' bowl, pebbles and several candles (from Makro, with the price label still on it). Also freecycled.

Last year OH got a Lynx body-spray gift set (freecycled) and I got a strange purple fake-suede clutch bag (freecycled)

We have dropped heavy hints this year that we are going to be doing our bathroom in the new year, so B&Q vouchers would be brilliant. I suspect we'll end up with something else that will be freecycled in the new year...

          I hate the smellies.
I have got boxes and boxes, and boxes of smellies under my bed!
Even Mr Sheds got me smellies last year ... despite being asked not to.

oh poor you, my mum is as bad, i have had some corkers from her over the years.

a little cardboard jigsaw in a CD case
a teapot with a broken spout and one of those rubber repair thingies over it.
a pair of clipon earings the size of saucers ( ok, slight exageration, but not by much)

the list is endless and depressing.

I am sure she clears out the loft every year just to find something to annoy me with.
I also would prefer to recieve nothing, its not as if i am hard to buy for, any chocs would do, however cheap.

Mr Sheds is hopeless too - I bought my own gifts this year, and wrapped them!

OH gets loads of lynx stuff and he's allergic, so this year after getting fed up with them sat under the bed in a box gathering dust, I sent 8 shower gels and heaven knows how many body spray things to the school and pre-school for their raffle.

Now I just have to wait til we 'win' it all back again lol

When I was just pregnant with my first child m-in-law gave me a knitted lime green jumper thing. It was truly revolting. She claimed it would go over my then non-existant bump. I was actually speechless for a few moments. Not like me at all.

It was on the drive home that OH told me she'd had it as a pressie the year before! He's remembered it as it was so hideous! lol

well i have to admit that i just bought 2 lynx sets for the brats stockings, we are so broke this year and i really couldn't think of anything, but hey, they are teens, so its about time they started getting smellies for xmas in revenge for all the ones they have bought me.
i am not allowed to use anything perfumed and they KNOW this.

my ex-nieghbours used to pop in xmas morning so the kids could exchange presents, they were so shocked at some of the things my mum used to give me, they started getting me a little something each year so i had a decent pressie under the tree

I do get nice stuff from OH and my family, but only cos I either get it myself or drop MASSIVE hints.

I really enjoy watching my boys with their things, mine are just freaky entertainment value!

We have little competitions between us to see if we can guess what the grandparents have got us....

I would rather have nothing at all than some of the rubbish we've got from them!!

My son was georgous last year as he came running out of his room in the morning , spotted his stocking. Opened all the little bits and bob. Was thrilled to bits and over the moon. So we went downstairs, had brekkie then said to him 'shall we go and see in the lounge if father xmas ate his mincepie and drank the whisky' So off he skips and then stops dead in shock as he then discovered all the real presents! He had had no idea the stocking wasn't all there was! Just goes to show they don't need much to please them, and he would have been more than happy with just a few bits and bobs.
