Gonna try a Cauldron mushroom, almond & hazlenut roast and roast potatoes, parsnips, garlic, onions and sweet potatoes, with carrots, potatoes and stuffing - I like me roasties!
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower

          Yay a veggie meal!

Believe me, that kinda stuff goes down in Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana! A friend of mine in Marianna, Florida has alligator for festive dinners. He shoots them...

...With a 50 calibre machine gun. I have witnessed this.
Tried gator when on hols in Florida. Its really quite nice.

We have got Turkey and trimmings, and I'm going to make an apple pie for those that don't eat Christmas pud. Plan on getting a beef joint, a ham/gammon, and nibbles, because I'm working Boxing day, so I reckon Steve and Lauren will just munch cheese and crackers for their tea.
Don't really buy a whole lot of extra stuff, just a few treats added to the usual monthly shop.

We're having a nice leg of pork with loads of fat ready to be converted into crackling, courtesy of my wonderful local butcher A I Roberts. They are supporting my slow cooking phase and do a great line in oxtail - but I don't thing FIL will cope with that on Christmas Day (shame really - trying shin and swede in ginger wine on Sunday).

We actually both wanted slow cooked belly pork but conceded that somethimes you have to go with the flow with guests. (shame - belly pork is sooooo cheap)

I'm not a veggie and I don't want an arguement about it either but that sounds delicious Manda - enjoy
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

Well I'm a bit cross with my brother-in-law right now. 3 sisters & me (plus their husbands) always have a dinner party the weekend before Christmas (early Christmas dinner, posh-style) and as my BIL is a public health inspector who knows some good butchers, I'd asked him in October to get me 7 good fillet steaks. Phone call today - not sure if he can get them but will let me know on Thursday night! Hmmmm that gives me Friday (when I'm looking after a granddaughter and doing prep work for the dinner and making marshmallows and ice-cream) to find a good farm shop near me who's got fillet of beef that's not been ordered. It's either that or completely change the menu. BIL stuffed with something gross could be on though
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Just made the stollen - which we'll have for breakfast with some fizz.

Scallops, then beef, potato and celeriac gratin, red cabbage, french beans and a few sprouts - its tradition!!!!!

Blackberry and limoncello trifle or christmas pud...

                      Sleep.....................

I'll be having turkey cooked for a week. She's probably already put the veg on (ever seen a grey sprout in a puddle of water?) and even the 'roast potatoes' will be soggy fat laden affairs. She SUBMERGES them in a deep roasting dish, effectively making fried potatoes in the oven. Bless her, she's lovely, but Christmas dinner is one heck of an ordeal. I've told OH to tell her I'm bringing dessert!! She won't let me cook anything else - she would literally pace at night worrying that she'd put me out!

You probably think I'm exaggerating, but the MIL's cooking is legendary, for all the wrong reasons, lol! OH told me I'm not allowed to go up North until I've helped him through it!

I can confirm that I am having neither camel nor fish on christmas day.

Dead easy I use James Martin's recipe Marshmallows: Recipes: UKTV Food and all the family love them. Remaining egg yolks I'll be using to make the custard base for some ice cream

Just had a text from sister - BIL's redeemed himself and got me the 7 fillet steaks (might still stuff him and hold him up as an example though!)
