Solstice ~ Burning the Clocks, 21 Dec

I really miss the Winter Solstice celebration "Burning the Clocks" in Brighton: a festival of lanterns and costumes, with samba band playing, and dancers, loads of children ... and then a big bonfire on the beach.

Sunday 21st Dec:
The parade route will be: North Street, Ship Street, Bartholomews, East Street and Madeira Drive.
For the best viewing position, go straight to Madeira Drive and watch the parade arrive at 7.15pm

Please do not wait in New Road to watch the parade as this is our assembly zone ~ the event will finish at about 8pm. Please note all times are approximate.

Don't know but I bet Derbyshire has a few chapters dedicated to it... My family have lived in little White Peak villages for years and the strange stories and customs still make my (already curly) hair curl.

cheers - not sure if thats the book i want - only had vague recollections and thought it might have been more of a tourist guide in diary format - this one looks like a long read, but still looks good ........

it is very good, i am re-reading it at the moment plus he has another one called 'the rise and fall of merry England' the ritual year 1400 - 1700 which is good as well.
