Well my BIL said he couldnt afford christmas and guess what he gave his daughter. Nothing, zilch, didnt even speak to her even tho he was at my other sisters for the day and at my nieces today, all he did was shout at her to be quiet. She no longer wants anything to do with him, she has been going to his for tea once a week but she says she wont be going anymore. I dont blame her and we have said its up to her what she does.

What an absolute prat he sounds... You're right to leave it up to her to decide though - she should never be able to feel later like she has been pushed in one direction or the other. My dad was only 15 when he decided to never have anything to do with his father again (although the circumstances were different). He says he never regretted it, although it did make him sad at times.

GODS. I would go without the christmas turkey and the pressies, just to be able to buy my daughter a little something for the day. Beans on toast and no regrets. Poor kid."He that but looketh on a plate of ham and eggs to lust after it hath already committed breakfast with it in his heart"

I think Christmas is (MAINLY) for kids if adults don't want to do it fine, but don't inflict it on your children.
Little money is not an excuse £5-£10 can buy quite a nice present.
And any way Christmas is only for a few days & Jackie's BIL has the rest of the year to be a miserable b*****d.The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

That man is a waste of space! Someone should put him out of her misery!!
On the upside, kids don't need presents, they need security, love and affection. Sounds like you all give her plenty.
What gifts were given to us a child at christmas are forgotten about as we grow up, but she will remember the love you all gave her for the rest of her life.

My sister's dad came for Xmas, to pick up his present ... but didn't give any in return, for her or any of her 4 children (his grandchildren)
