Thanks for those links Dobby, they make you think don't they!

Firstimer1 is stopping too and as we live close to each other we'll try and support each other. We've already decided that at the end of January we're going to treat ourselves to a meal together

I was a 40 a day plus person gave up on 23rd November 2007 saved the money and managed to complete my mid life crisis and buy a motor bike Triumph Boneville T100 every time I take the bike out I feel really sanctimonious.

Serriously my major decison to stop smoking was my OH was rushed into the local hospital we were next to a bed in the emergency unit with a bloke not much older than me I'm 49 with emphysema that scared the s**t out of me prior to that I was in the frame of mind that will never happen to me.

Next pay day I stopped although my OH still smokes not in the house she goes outside but unusally I still love the smell of the ciggys.

          Have never felt better !!!!!!!!

Lots of luck guys! I'm not a smoker (though I tried it when I was younger, luckily we didn't like each other!) so no little nuggets of advice etc.

I'm sure you'll get there and you'll be so pleased when you do. xxx

Right, for us soon-to-be-ex-smokers, it's FF DAY -1 (fag free day)
I finished the last of my menthol fags yesterday and decided that as I don't like the taste of ordinary fags, that's what I'd buy as my last packet. Oh yuk, they taste disgusting! My mouth's like the bottom of a parrots cage (whatever that's like!) and they make me cough more than the others. I'll be glad when they're all gone
Good luck all of us, I'll be thinking of you when I'm crawling up the wall / across the ceiling / stamping my feet / wanging wellies down the garden (missing chickens on the way of course!)
Please post on here when you're having a bad time and what you're doing, we're in this together, we've told everybody now so we can't go back can we
OMG I'm rambling already and it isn't even FF day yet!

I think anyone giving up the dreaded weed is a brave person, wheather you are a 20 a day or a 60 a day person it will not be easy.
I stopped on the 26-01-1998, and it was not easy at all, still got urges for months afterwards.
Best of luck to you all and hope you succeed in giving up.

                    Goog luck.

I gave up several years ago after realising that smoking doesn't stunt your growth. Took me a few years to realise though.

If you really want to give up you will.

Lots of different ways and support to help out there, I guess it's just a case of finding what works for you, best of luck finding your solution.

On here for distraction therapy? Don't be daft I smoke more when I'm on the PC!

Anyway, I'm down to my last 3 fags so it looks as if I will be starting the FF's earlier. Right now I'm feeling positive but who knows how I'll feel tomorrow . Probably spend most of the day in bed - upstairs is a fag-free zone, always has been. So's my car, so I might go for a drive to see my daughters or something.

I've never been a smoker so have no idea how difficult this is going to be for you all, but good luck. My son had problems when he was a bit younger, and it all changed the day HE decided it was going to. Biggest part of the battle has to be the mental one I would have thought.
Good luck to you all, and vent whenever you like.

Life's disappointments are so much harder to take if you don't know any swear words.
