Sales, what sales?

Is it me, or are the "sales" rubbish?

We logged on to Next t'other day - we usually order stuff online as they don't sell the XLong jeans in the shops, so it makes sense to do it all at once. Of the things we were looking at they had hardly anything in stock. Ok, it could be that we left it a little "late" (9am rather than the 5am start or whatever it is).

We had the same experience with several sites, so we figured it must be an attempt to get people back on the high streets...

Today we ventured out and hit the high street (well Luton Arndale centre anyway). What a pile of tripe! Maybe our expectations were too high, maybe we're just not bargain hunter sales type people, but we were completely underwhelmed.

We popped into Adams as we were passing by - and even that was rubbish.

Least it saved us spending I guess.

Yup. We went into Nottingham on Saturday and too many people - not enough actual good stuff. We had to go to the pub to chill out, came home and ordered what we actually wanted, for half the price, online.

Yeah, we stopped in Pizza Express to chill. We didn't venture out before today for fear of the madness. It was busy enough today, but just nothing much worth buying.

Even the online sales seem a bit disappointing this year. Maybe we're just satisfied with our lot - now there's a thought!

I have some garden vouchers so we're going to pop round to our local garden centre maybe tomorrow. I just hope their sale is better than what we've seen so far.

Got to agree with you there HeyWayne the sales, by and large, are crap. Some of the electrical stuff is well reduced but as we're not interested in always upgrading (get new TV when old one dies) there's nothing in that line that we want. A lot of the other tat that is on offer I would begrudge giving room in a skip let alone our house.

Being as there's been a recent upsurge in interest in GYO you can bet your bottom dollar anything that might come in useful on the lottie will still be full price.

I've just spent 40 odd quid on seeds and that doesn't include the potatoes, beans, peas and onion sets.

They are all "Pants!" and i can't say I've noticed that much difference from other years
The only real bargain i saw was in Boots where some of the Christmas gift sets were half price. Even then it wasn't cheap enough to tempt me.

I've even seen some shops putting TV's in the sale with £30 off!!WOW. That isn't a SALE - thats just negotiation!

Shops don't seem to understand that if all we hear is how bad the economy is, its going to take more than a 10% reduction to get us to buy.

even good sales are not always good news - OH was going to buy me The Royal Horti's Encyclopedia of Gardening Techniques for Christmas, Waterstones and WH Smith £30 (cover price) I said try Amazon ... £18.50 free postage so got that one, bargain!? ... no not really, today Waterstones £30 WH Smith £6.25

Ho dear, i went to my local Wyevale yesterday to see what they had reduced and it was mostly Christmas decorations and tat.... they had lots of potash, bone meal and other fertilizer stuff on sale, ho and Fungicides.


I was underwhelmed.
