Taking snuff vastly increases your risk of oral cancer.

I've had it, it's not nice ... I've lost half my tongue, teeth and neck. Something to think about.

As a smoker i have to say it sucks, cancer runs in both sides of my family, but, and there is always a but i just don't have the will power to give it up I am just not ready yet.

Smokers normally give up when a) they are ready or b) its too late.

I personally hate the smell, i smoke outside, i wash my clothing every day, sometimes i will change twice a day and i don't smoke a great deal.

I will say though, i would rather smell "fresh" tobacco than body odour which makes me gag every time and as a smoker my sense of smell is not brilliant.

Its hard enough being a smoker without being demonised, some of us are trying and we don't mean to be offensive......

Queen Charlotte, the wife of George III regularly took snuff and her family often referred to her as 'Old Snuffy'.

Not sure about the sinus problem, (might even help) but all things being equal, give it a go. You might enjoy it. Imagine being down on the lottie and getting the snuff box out (no inuendo intended) infront of all the old boys. Classic, that would give them something to talk about.

LOL it would be cool, truth is as a history buff (sarzwix well tell you) i am well aware of the predeliction of regency ladies to take snuff.
that said its still an addiction, and any addiction is one too many, nirvanah is within my reach if i can just give up chocolate

I drink, i eat chocolate and meat, if i give it all up, what is left worth living for? but i don't feel comfortable replacing one addiction for another.

nor will i be 'frightened ' like a child into giving something up, i am a grown woman, i know the risks of anything and everything i do, and I make the choice, noone can make it for me , however much they preach or evangalise or lay down laws.

You are clearly educated and enlightened. However, most people who smoke don't think illness will happen to them.

Oh god i do, illness is linked to tobacco, i have lost two grandparents to fags and booze, an ex mother in law to cancer, there are more very close linkages than i like to go into, there is a strong correlation between fags and illness.

I myself have been very ill this last year because of the fags, i go blue around the mouth etc.

I am not defending it, but it is a personal choice as Bridie says. I always feel like a naughty child when i have to smoke during working hours, but i am an adult.

I did give up for 4 years and put on 7 stone, which i did finally loose again, i find it hard to balance the two out at the moment.....

Dont get me wrong, i dont like it anymore than the non smoker next to me. I have made my hands bleed trying to wash the smell away.

i am sorry to disagree, but i think in this day and age there is not a person left that can claim that they don't know illness from smoking/drinking/over eating is a real risk......... we ALL know, but some people choose to lie, to themselves and others about their reasons for continuing to indulge in habits that have been clearly shown to be harmful to their health ( vegetarians excluded at this point that's a life choice NOT a health issue and for another thread).

drinking is harmfull, i know this, i choose to do it
smoking is addictive, i try not to do it......it does me, its an ongoing fight
chocolate and sugar and butter ?............personally i prefer to lie to myself over those.

chocs and bickies do NOT make you fat, too many do.
drinking does not make you an alcoholic..........look it up, besides the gov needs the tax money?
smoking does make you an addict....but it's legal?
is it surprising people lie to themselves about their addictions when society lies to itself about why it allows them to be taxable but morally wrong?
prostitution is immoral, but not illegal, living off immoral earnings is illegal but taxable? smoking is legal but anti-social? oh and taxable

if you want Joe Blow to be honest about why he does what he does, try telling the truth all round i say, or at least figure out what the truth actually is, not what we are told it is supposed to be.

As I've said before I drink but within reason.
                      I smoke(roll ups)if I chose to smoke packet fags I would smoke 40-50 a day.
                      I like burgers & sausages(Not every day)
I can still walk 10-15 miles a day(don't ask me to run)& I consider my self good for my age.
I have no intention of changing until I want to.

Both her parents were over 90 (& had all their marbles(not Greek) )when they died.
I worked in a care home three years & there were some poor devils had lost it by 70.
