  • Is it us, or does it just happen?

Now then before we go any further.

PLEASE BE POLITE AND RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS.

Right, back in time, when seahorse was a small girl and the Romans occupied Britain, grapes were grown as far north as the Humber estuary. In the 1700s, the river Thames froze so solidly they had "frost fairs", 10,000 years ago woolly mammoths ran about where smallblueplanet now lives, and now, 2008 is the warmest on record.

For some, Global warming is a conspiracy theory, for others, it shows a need to wear hemp shirts and straw knickers.

My view is that Global warming, and indeed cooling are natural phenomenon, but we are accelerating the warming proccess more quickly than the natural cycle and may eventually take it to a critical point where it may not recover for many millenia, or may send it over into an ice age.

How far do we go in attempting to stop the temp rising, as surely, it being a bit warm is a better option than the next ice age. Imagine your gas bills then.

It being a bit warmer would be nice, but remember the last two summers? Wet, cool and windy. That is what global warming is supposed to mean for the UK, not a Mediterranean-type climate at all.

Straw knickers? Sounds a bit uncomfy...

i appreciate your PC'ness...well i don't actually, but I can see where and why its coming from....but don't you sometimes wonder if it is not a tad arrogant to think that lil ole we is entirely responsible for global warming?

and if we are? so what, we will die long before the planet does, the planet WILL go on, in some form or another, i am afraid it's us that has the arrogance to care whether its remembered who's fault it was !!!

its a planet, its being going for millennia, we are a blip, ( the wart on it's ass), we cannot have that much effect, and if we do, it matters not a jot in the end to the planet, just to us, and we do not really matter a jot.........seriously, its all in our heads

Whether global warming is happening or not, we should learn to look after the planet and not waste the resources.

Bring back the wombles, I hate to see the litter everywhere and they were fantastic recyclers, all the children were much more aware of their environment.

Perhaps to the next generation, recycling will be a way of life and totally natural to them.

When the next ice age come's all the gas will burnt by then and with a bit of luck we will all be using solar energey .
Plus when the ice age come's we will be long gone probably burning our remains to keep warm....jacob

I'll clear a space behind the sofa for you PW and send you a menu so you can order food for the next 6 months .
Should we use and abuse the planet with no regard for the future- I don't think so . I'd like to see more renewable energy but I also dont have a problem with atomic energy (properly done with a priority on saftey not profit). Some of the latest renewable energy schemes have been shown to use more energy than they produce (Bio Desiel) so lets see them properly researched before they are hailed as the answer to coughs , colds , moles and sore holes (sorry - local joke).
But then again I don't think that the governments policy of taxing us with road tax , fuel tax , congestion tax, parking tax, toll road tax etc is the right way either.

But don't let anything I say get in the way of a good all out , no holds barred "discussion"

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

Some folks don't believe in climate change ... I don't believe in Santa Claus, but he still seems to come around every September for four months

According to Mr H who is a smart so and so and an ex archaeologist this warming freezing lark is cyclical and quite normal. We are simply heading into another ice age. Dig out your thermals

That's just a way to raise taxes, without increasing income tax. Make it a kind of voluntary tax ... you choose to drive, so we'll tax you.

                        * whispers: we even pay tax (VAT) on tampons, you know. There's not much voluntary about using them

Just think of how women used to have to manage , they would think they are truly a luxury.
