I'm doing my bit for global warming, I mulch the ground to keep it warm, my greenhouse keeps a little bit of it warm and the cloches I spread out keep a big chunk of it warm. I have bonfires, they warm it up a bit. My compost heaps generate lots of heat. I use deep litter for the horses in the winter, that generates lots of heat. Nothing wrong with a bit of global warming I say.

According to Mr H who is a smart so and so and an ex archaeologist this warming freezing lark is cyclical and quite normal. We are simply heading into another ice age. Dig out your thermals

DD (also archaeology) gets quite hot under the collar about this too - it's gonna happen anyway we're the inconsequential wart etc etc. But I think the recycling etc issue comes down to respect - we just don't show much respect for the planet, it's our home. Keeping it clean and being careful with resources should be in our nature, why's it so difficult for us?

Climate change and resource management are clearly two different issues.
Climate change IS cyclical, the examples in PW's original post are just the tip of the iceberg (gettit?) and as Bride has said, we are doomed to fail eventually, there is no proof that I know of saying that evolution has stopped.
Resource management is the real problem facing mankind currently.
We do need to change the way we live/eat etc as our current waste happy climate (see what I did?) is too profligate by far.
I have no idea of how to change either, and working in the petro chemical industry I'm probably not best placed to give advice, but for a very thought provoking read try this:

Cant remember the author but have a look in your libraries etc, smulchy and sickly in places, but some of the facts and figures that are quoted are incredible.

Human caused global warming/climate change, or natural occurence - they are all theories/hypotheses (sp?). We don't actually "know" anything to be true. Only thing we do know is that theories change.

For all we know we could simply be an experiment/sideshow for another intelligence.

i appreciate your PC'ness...well i don't actually, but I can see where and why its coming from....but don't you sometimes wonder if it is not a tad arrogant to think that lil ole we is entirely responsible for global warming?

and if we are? so what, we will die long before the planet does, the planet WILL go on, in some form or another, i am afraid it's us that has the arrogance to care whether its remembered who's fault it was !!!

its a planet, its being going for millennia, we are a blip, ( the wart on it's ass), we cannot have that much effect, and if we do, it matters not a jot in the end to the planet, just to us, and we do not really matter a jot.........seriously, its all in our heads

Perhaps to the next generation, recycling will be a way of life and totally natural to them.

It was more natural for our grandparents and great-grandparents to recycle as they had less blooming packaging to deal with and they burned all the paper and cardboard without some 'do-gooder' saying they should only burn smokeless coal.

We should go back to eating what is produced locally where possible, which is pretty much the ethic for us on the vine. It is crazy to read that the UK exports loads of milk then has to import it for home use. Who on earth started that nonsense off - bring back the dairy farmer being able to supply milk to the locality (without some Government numpty saying it isn't healthy - my grandparents lived to a ripe old age)

To be honest - those reports just make me ask why are milk and beef so darned expensive if we are over-run with cattle?
