Did anyone see Saturday Kitchen ? James Martin was cooking beetroot and said not to eat the leaves as they're poisonous! What chance have we got it chefs don't know what we can eat!
I heard the same thing on my local radio station on Sunday. There was a general thing on what to do with beetroot. Nearly phoned/texted but decided I didn't want the aggro of trying to state my case. Woos that I am. And I was getting ready to go to work.
Is it any wonder people develop irrational ideas about food when this goes on. I thought JM knew better. Maybe he doesn't know what goes into his mixed baby salad leaf garnish. If it still used.

I do like the fact that James (first name terms you know ha ha ha) refers most weeks to something he grows in his garden. like this week he was asking Jane in Eastenders (cant remember her name) about her granddad and dad growing things in the back yard.
I must admit I didn't see the bit when he said about the beet leaves but if i was on the guest's table i would have spoken up
a midwife was travelling home on a train in the carrage two men were having a discussion "i tell you its spelt whombbb"says the first chap the second replies"no you got it wrong mate its wooommbb"this gos on for ten mins or so after which the midwife turns round and tells the chaps "look lads i know how you spell it its womb i know im a midwife ok"
both chaps look at the midwife with slack jaws and one says to her "when did you ever hear an elephant fart"
exkuse the spelin

Going back to the cheffing thing. I see JM will be trying some self-sufficiency in the November mag (see October mag, mine arrived today). Does this mean he may actually learn what can and can't be eaten.
