It was -10.5 in my garden this morning! Had to put a separate water bucket out for the chooks, just couldn't break the ice even with a kettle of hot water.
Heard on the news earlier that the government might have to pay out cold weather payments this winter. The qualifying criteria is that the temperature has to be an average of zero or below for 7 consecutive days between November and March. What's the betting that day 7 the average will be 0.5! The £25 would come in handy but it wouldn't pay for a gas bottle refill, and I'm using 1 of those every 2 weeks to supplement the central heating!

I wold get a new boiler if I were you. It is not good to use Calor inside for a long period and it is very wet.
You will have damp problems and it is not that good for your lungs.

i got a payment a couple of weeks ago for the dead cold spell we had, thing that annoys me about it, though, is you never know if you're gonna get it or not, so i can't afford to use £25 worth of heating, just in case i don't get it .... so although it comes in handy, it doesn't actually help when it's really cold
Helloooooooooooo!
Only -5 at 8am this morning but it was -8 the night before, Love it! even though I managed to go a#*% over tip twice, wooden cloggs & icy ground don't mix!!!!

It is a new boiler, it was replaced by Warmfront last winter. I have the calor heater on in the conservatory so that warm air comes into the house. I've also got cavity wall insulation (again done by Warmfront) and extra loft insulation, but it really is sooooooooooooooooo coooooooooooooooooooold in here! With the central heating thermostat on 25, the warmest the sitting room gets to is about 16. I've got a curtain up at the sitting room door, and I tuck the window curtains onto the windowsill at night so the cold air doesn't "fall in" to the room. Anyway, I'll probably be moaning in the summer that it's too hot For now, I'll just keep my vest, jumper, cardi, fleece, pants, tights, socks, trousers on and wrap up warm when I go out
