Nog, You just shattered my lifetime illusion. Im only a simple wiltshiremam,Strong arms, but no sense. Wonderful how nature compensates....... I dream of winning allotment of the year, With my Shed being the deciding factor. And now you talk of insulation, fry-ups , carpets. How could i fit all that when my family have waited at home for the same (

*sends a hug* thanks for the thread. I cannot wait in the evening after the DD is in bed to pop in and see how things are going on the vine and with the other grapes.

Well here's a positive thought in keeping with the original post - I DO live in a village where everyone says 'hello' to you. It's the most friendly place I've ever lived and I wouldn't move for the world - not to Switzerland or anywhere. People look out for one another - call on neighbours they haven't seen for a bit - a number of people shop for their neighbours. Love it.

Going back to the original thought -its like that here...everyone says bonjour and you dont have to lock your car (although you do), its like going back in time ...altho it is changing fast...and loads of people have guns....cos they hunt for wild boar.

Our village is quite friendly too - you walk to the shops and get "hellos" from almost everyone. There's a group that do things for elderly or infirm - shopping, cleaning, even just popping round for a chat. Admittedly we don't get involved in many of the activities - but they still happen. We have a village festival too which is always well attended.

                              On the subject of guns:

Our bit of Sheff is very village-y, and I know quite a few people just by saying 'hello' in the street. The Botanical Gardens opposite have a 'Botanical Roads' picnic in the summer and many shops are independent, and so I know the butcher, the pharmacist, the boutique owners etc.

I even got an invite yesterday to "Babies of 2008" - a little meet-up this Friday of the 'village' babies born last year.

                                S'nice!
