I'm sorry but that is just not true. The level of recognised debt (ie open and accounted for) is the same, the trouble is that he has also spent the last 12 years building up a different sort of debt which isn't accounted for in the same figures.Tx

I love Boris. Henley suited him as a constituency perfectly. He could amble around on a bike, safe in the knowledge that the year's most challenging challenge would be 'thinking about the parking for the regatta' again...I don't roll on Shabbos

Boris for president of America I say, he's great.
The fault of our current financial climate doesnt lie on Mr Browns doorstep, no matter how much some people would like it to.
There has been global mismagement of finances for the last 15 years or so, and now, in gardening terms, we are reaping what we have sowed.
The French economy doesnt permit credit cards, ridiculous overdrafts, stupid mortgages etc and yet its still suffering. The credit crunch or whatever its called today is a truly global problem, not the fault of one man or one party.
There is a democratic system in place in the UK, there will be a general election soon enough, and the votes may be cast.
I left the country primarily because of policies in place in the UK at the time, so am no fan of a Labour government but its simply wrong to say the current fiscal woes are due to them.Bob Leponge

Mr Sheds racked up 30 grand of credit card debt before I met him. He could blame his ex (for encouraging him); the banks (for not telling him how much the repayments were); or society, for making him expect to have everything he wanted.
Instead, he's held his hands up and realised he didn't want to think about the debt, he just wanted to have a good time, at the time.Last edited by Two_Sheds; 07-01-2009, 12:37 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Would echo bubblewrap's comments but feel the grapevine is not the place for political point scoring.
We as GYO'ers have many things in common but I doubt politics or religion rank among them. Perhaps best to steer clear of the subjects for risk of offending people we consider friends. It is the doom of man, that they forget.

I thought it unusual to see this thread on here, as its not a topical thread, and not a forum known for outspoke political views. If blame is to be apportioned then let me start by saying blame 'me'.
I'm to blame for not saving enough, for making use of the low interst rates, for extending my house and increasing my mortgage, for buying what I want when I want it, and not for safeguarding myself for the possibility of redundancy.
I'm to blame, for now shopping less, and for spending little. I'm to blame for, not making use of the reduced income tax, as I don't have enough to spend to benefit from it. I'm to blame for fixing my mortgage so therefore not benefitting from the even lower interest rates we now have.
So if we are looking for someone to blame, blame me, one of the many.Last edited by Mikey; 07-01-2009, 02:36 PM.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I thought it a wee bit unusual, but I wouldn't think it should upset anyone. We're not politicians (as far as I know, tho' I know The Cam's like a bit of GYO!), and like any other thread, people will agree and disagree with each other. Doesn't seem to be a particularly heated or outspoken debate, to be honest!
I can say, hand on heart, that I am really and truly not in the least bit bovved if someone doesn't agree with my views on Boris Johnson...
...and anyway, Mikeywills has come clean and admitted that its all his fault, so maybe that's the debate over...I don't roll on Shabbos

I mean i have stayed out of it so far because i choose too, like religion, politics can be an explosive subject, but.......... are we immune to it's effects because we grow veg? does it not impact us as individuals everyday?
is there some arcane reason why it should NOT be discussed in part of the forum set aside for 'other' discussions?
if people want to, let them, people have died in this country to conserve their right to speak their minds and to stifle that is to treat those sacrifices with contempt.
the title is plain, if anyone feels uncomfortable discussing it, don't.
remember Mary Whitehouse, the epitome of censorship? well our answer to her was ' there is an off switch, you don't have to watch', my answer to anyone thinking this is not a subject for this forum is, why not, the governance of OUR country, by OUR elected officials supposedly working on OUR behalf, should be a subject for discussion by every free thinking individual in the world!
its not just the cabbage, its your right to grow that cabbage where and when and how you want to.
the grapevine is a community, not just because of what each person has in common, but their diversity as well.Last edited by BrideXIII; 07-01-2009, 07:52 PM.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09
