Thanks all. Finally sorted out. Managed to get a new bit fitted to the central heating pipes so its going to be on for the next few days to dry the place out.
My neighbours came past and saw the plumbing van so popped in to make sure was all ok. Came back half an hour later mob handed with squeegies and mops and buckets, towels etc. Spent most of the afternoon chez moi swabbing the decks. I really appreciated their help.
Nicos, life clearly isnt fair. You get a Richard Gere lookalike, I was hoping for a French Angelina Joliette, what do I get? Le Elton John, complete with ridiculous glasses.
Tonight is supposed to be the coldest night of this snap so I wont sleep a wink, paranoid that something else is going to go pop.
Right, with the heating on for the next few days my house is going to be like a sauna. What grows in warm steamy conditions (plants, boys and girls, plants!!!!)Bob Leponge

Shame about 'Elton Jean' Bob, but if he sorted the heating out, that's all that matters really.unless you'd rather have Angelina Joliette, and a cold, wet house

Bob, try this, you might smile.
Chatted wih my brother in law last week.
By the way he said, the dog is now called "Arsonist".
I asked why?
John told me he had developed a habit of putting the cats feeding bowl up on the kitchen worktop when he went out, so that the dog could not help himself to a light snack while he (John) was out.
On this particular day in December the dog was extra hungry and feeling very spry for a twelve year old with an artifical hip, so he clambered up and had a snack.
Unfortunately he trod all over the built in gas hob.........
With several paws at the same time.........
So he managed to light the hob......
The resulting fire damage was very localised, but the smoke damage was not.
The dog and cat both survived uninjured.
Yes, it is absolutely, totally, true.Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

Cheers mate, that made me smile.
My house is now pretty much dry, the insurance company have already arranged to have an assessor come round to arrange for the damage to be repaired.
Kitchen stinks still, but that will go.
Could be a lot worse so am still cheery.
Just going to work out how I can take up all those offers of bed and legs etc.Bob Leponge
