Woke all upset this morning - I feel so sad for him. He will really miss Charlie - all over christmas it was Charlie this and Charlie that - every tag or card he "read" as "Dear Daniel Happy Christmas Love Charlie". I know he is only 3 and as my Mum said "dont worry about him he will get over it eventualy" but its the now (when I tell him) that I am worried about and this is his first reall friend its such a shame. When we moved up here Hannah had only just made her first friend and it was over a year before she forgot her. It would be great if Charlie ends up going to the same one. I just cant wait to go and visit the other playschool this am to see if there is a place for him.

It's lovely when children have a special friend, but they do also need to mix with other children, and not become too reliant on that one person.
Whatever happens about the nursery place, put a positive spin on it, and encourage him to seek out other friends.

He'll be fine,if you don't get him a place could you not make plans to meet up with his little friend & his mum at other times?Or have him round to play and have lunch?
Like Two-Sheds said, although it's lovely for them to have a special friend,it's also important for him to mix with others....DD really struggled going back to her 2nd term at nursery as she spent her 1st term playing almost exclusively with her bestest friend from when she was a babe, she however started school so DD spent a few weeks lost without her....she soon made other friends.A similar thing is now happening with our neighbours little boy,he's upset that my DS won't be there tomorrow as he's started school.
If you can't get a place is it so bad?DD went to playgroup & hated it....I persevered as it was what I was told to do,DS however,I'd found a bit more confidence in my mummy skills & he skipped playgroup & went straight to nursery...gave me valuable time to do special stuff with him for whole days whilst DD was at school.
Hope it all works out for you.x

Hi i am an acting head at a nursery school which is due to close soon, don't worry about your son. Have a look on your local council website it will have all the local childminders, playgroups, clubs etc for your little ones age. Also do you have a children's centre near by they do lots of fab things for children and mums and again you'll find that out on the web.
Children do like routine and familiarity, as long as he knows you are phased by the changes he will be and he will soon adapt and make new friends. Hope you find a place soon.
