My last pair of gardening gloves had a worn out finger in,so thought, I know, perhaps i can cut the top of and put a new end on,so i turnes it inside out,and had another idea,i have a lot of fabric in my stores, just the ticket, left over from many moons ago, some of it is exactly the same as the original gloves,{wilkinsons coloured brushed cotton}i unpicked one, made a pattern with longer fingers, and after a while,whalar,1 pair of new gloves,i just need to tweek things a bit,so am really chuff with me self, have always sewn, was my trade, even made both my daughter inlaws wedding dresses, trousers for OH and sons years ago,and much more, but i never done gardening gloves, but will now

All very clever stuff lottie dolly. Most of the sewing here gets done by me because Mrs snuffer hates sewing. Never made anything complicated but can run up a dog bed when needed or more to the point if I can be bothered.
Am also impressed that you can keep your gardening gloves long enough to get a hole in them. I've lost dozens of the things. Can't imagine where. They never turn up in the garden or on the lottie. They must go off and join all the missing odd socks. It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Quilters say, when asked by rellies to alter a garment, that it's like asking Monet to paint your garage!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

snuffer,i usually have 3or4 pairs on the go,all diferent colours,so i have always got at least 1 pair to hand, pardon the pun,i then put together any odds until i gone, then start again, how ever my stronge ladies swade ones are still good.
janeyo,if you not want to buy another pair yet,is it posible you can put a patch on the worn out bit, just tack it on,even if you have to sacrifice an older 1 to do it,just a thaught.
flummery,i had a go at shirts, but did not get on with doing the collar upstand, horrible job,as regard to alterations, people think because you can sew many things, you can just do it for them, not take you long, humm, until you tell them what is involved in doing what they think is sooo easy,
a few years ago,we had a market trader sold his fabric for 50p per mtr,so i stocked up on fabric expecting to move home, but never did,so i have enough fabric to start my own stall, even got some genuine whynciet, spelling, from my late mothers little pile,i went of sewing for a long time, but every now and then i get the notion, but clothes,is just as cheap to buy ready made,i used to alter 1 pattern,to make another designe,my dream was to be a dress designer and pattern cutter, but failed the 11 plus, and mam made us go into a factory,it was very much,DO AS I SAY,but you cannot go back in time,Last edited by lottie dolly; 08-01-2009, 03:41 PM.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these
