i did test the water ...... same temp, the old tank water has been syphoned on the garden, so theres only half a small tank full left, cos there was only gonna be 2 fish in it till tomorrow night, mind you, they'll probably be ok, theres only 6 in there...... i might boil the water for em just in case, and stick em back in in a couple of days.

Put uncle snadge down as a chick pannicker as well. Was wondering how the heck you'd killed chicks with tap water? then I thought you'd been feeding them fish!

Must have missed this one but.........what type of fish are they? Whatever they are, I hope ones that are left are ok!

Could have boiling the water got rid of the oxygen?

                    Hi Lynda
Cripes had me worried too - if they are goldfish they would be fine in the pond as they are cold blooded, I would guess temperature shock.

Phew. Sorry to hear about your fish Lynda but like many others I thought it was your baby chicks. KK thought something terrible had happened when I said oooooh noooooo actually out loud.

I don't know anything about fish so I can't be any help just to say sorry. Good luck with the survivors. I'm sure it couldn't have been anything you have done - you are so caring and carefull with your "babies"

BW i have only boiled the chicks water ....... just in case ...... i didn't boil the fish water, though i might before i put em back in the tank ........ and leave it a day or two

for info the baby goldfish and shubunkins were tiny when i took em out of the pond i think in about august, there were 25 (have since given a few away) ..... all different sizes, from different litters, normally any babies get eaten by the big fish, so i thought i'd save these ones, as i have a bigger pond to go in when it's warmer...... obviously that hasn't worked lol .......

the big fish are still in the pond ....i saw one swimming today

Steve's pond was completely frozen over t'other day, not even the corner where the air stone is was open. Had a look today, and the corner has thawed, but the rest is about an inch thick with ice. Could still see fish moving about 5ft down at the bottom, albeit very slowly.

                              Love the chicky baby pics.

                                Here's another heart attack candidate....
Mebbe you could ask PW/Seahorse/Zazen to change the thread title?!

As for your poor fishies, I can only imagine it having something to do with the freezing weather we've had causing a concentration of something they didn't like in the tap water. It doesn't sound like you could have introduced anything else not using cleaning products etc. And if the water was definitely room temp, that rules that out. No food change or anything like that?

I'd carry on boiling the chicky water too for a few days til we get the proper thaw at the weekend. I know your drinks mostly consist of boiled water anyway
If you can be @rsed, you could ring the water people tomorrow and ask for today's quality report (or something like that) which they have to record and should show any peaks?
