Not for the Squeamish - nose cauterisation

Anyone ever had this done?
I had 6 very bad nosebleeds in 4 days so my doctor sent me off to the "urgences" to have it dealt with - not certain precisely what they did but one nostril is now packed with some strange device - and putting in place was more pain than having a baby - have to go and see a nose specialist tomorrow - do not know what to expect.......only hope he speaks english cos my french deserts me when i'm stressed........

stop panicking, its not that bad
, its just a case of closing down the ends of the cappileries that are leaking, that's the really little ones, they can burst if you sneeze a lot, i have that as do both my sons, cauterizing is 'burning' sounds nasty, isn't, hardly feel it, stings a bit.

I've had it - wasn't too bad at all. Although I did bleed from my eyes and mouth for a few days post op - apparently because they had sealed the flow in my nose, so the blood had to find another way out.

Looked fab - real horror stuff, but not sore at all...and very rare, I believe!

I've done it as a junior surgeon just after the Battle of Hastings. Very minor, Jardiniere. Honestly, don't worry. You will probably feel nothing. The cure afterwards is lots of creme brulee washed down with a bottle of Alsace Gewurtztraminer.

Oh poor Jardiniere. I've worked in ENT and I know how alarmed people are by the rivers of blood in a big nose bleed. I think what they have up your nose is like a catheter with an inflatabe balloon which can be blown up to apply pressure to the capillaries and stop the bleeding. It works.
The cauterisation will be nothing - she, the biggest coward in the world says. No honestly, it's not too bad.

I had my nose done when I was about 12(week blood vessel)

I had it done around 1997 - it didn't hurt, I could smell it more than feel it, best to get it done

On, a scale of 1 to 10 does it hurt more or less than plucking a stray hair from the nostril end, that doesn't come out first time.

I'd say 3ish - certainly no more than that and I am being a drama queen

Me well, I've a low pain threshold and I would say a two in the pain stakes. Eyeswatering is as Mikey says as bad as it gets. I still get the nose bleeds though

Thank-you everybody for the advice and good wishes - had the nose cauterised by a lovely gentle man ...no pain.......what i had done on thursday was a nose packing to stop it bleeding - that was painful....and as my specialist said done by a "generaliste".
My french didn't let me down.......managed the whole consultation...only had one repetez-vous?
