Well, I've just heard that Gandalf is arriving at 5pm today. His current people are bringing some of the food he's used to with him, so I can keep him on that until he settles down and make the change gradually - but not too gradually. I'm going to pop him up to the vets tomorrow for a quick check-up. My daughter has seen him and says he seems very healthy, but I always think a vet is more likely to see a pet in an emergency if it is already registered with them. I'm getting quite excited now. I love that hutch Tamsin, but I would have to be convinced that it would last longer than 12 months, which was about the time it always took Dylan to trash one. I don't know why, but I always end up with pets who go from the cute-little-baby stage to the grumpy-old-man stage with no apparent in-between bit..........actually my kids did that too.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Well, Gandalf arrived at 5pm as promised and he is gorgeous. A beautiful dark blue-grey. He's so calm too and really enjoys a cuddle. We've left him alone now to settle down. He seems really tiny though in comparison to Dylan. Does anyone know at what age (roughly) he will be fully grown?Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Got a picture?
Rabbis are about fully grown by 4 months but they fill out a bit up to 6/7 months. I doubt he'll grow much if he's 6 months. They come in different sizes, anything from about 1kg (guinea pig size) to 7kg+ (small dog), depends on the breed.
I find metal corner protectors (they sell um in DIY stores for protecting walls) help make hutches last longer

Thanks everyone for your help. He's certainly a live wire, no fear of the dog even though he's never seen one before - I think he may end up being the boss - and he happily romped around the garden this morning after making an unexpected break for freedom (we're used to a sedate, elderly rabbit and were taken by surprise). Anyway after ten minutes exploring he went back to his hutch. Definitely a case of love at first sight here.
I'll sort out pictures later.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
