On Radio 5 Live this morning one of the discussions was about sightings of Humming Bird moth. Sightings are getting quite common.

Hi Bootie & Rauni, I've seen the hummingbird hawkmoth but never seen the caterpillar & seen the Elephant Hawkmoth caterpillar a few times but never seen the moth! Bet yours was an elephant hawkmoth cat. Bootie.
Happy Mouffe, let us know if you do see the moths as the caterpillar does look lovely.
Palustris, I've used that website in the past to identify caterpillars but still have trouble finding some. I love the pic. of the one on the hawkmoth page titled 'Tiger Swallowtail-face' it looks like it's giving a dirty look!Into every life a little rain must fall.

Fabulous pics everyone and like the look of the site Palustris. Should be a good one for my daughter who is into all things moving but we haven't got beyond the fact it is a slug/snail/spider/caterpillar. The only ones I can usually identify are the bees thanks to a book from a well-known company and a five week course at a local FE college.
Will keep eyes sharply peeled for more. Brings new interest to everything.
We have had a number of stag beetles again this year. Small person finds them fascinating and it helps to teach her about respecting wildlife etc.Last edited by Earthbabe; 13-09-2006, 10:00 AM.Bright Blessings
