eBay refund - should I feel bad?

Well, I ordered quite a few things for Xmas, 3 of which didn't show up so I spent hours chasing them.

One in particular was from a newish seller (5 transactions, but 100% positive)
It was supposed to be next day delivery, so I queried after a week. She was really "oh whatever" about it ... couldn't care less.

I asked for a tracking number, suspecting she either hadn't posted at all, or had not used Recorded like I'd paid for.

No number, no reply. So I made a claim for non-delivery.
3 weeks later, my item turns up ... wrongly addressed. She'd written down the wrong road. Goodness knows how I ended up getting it (clever postie).

Anyway, I try to contact her but she is "no longer a registered user" (trying to avoid a claim?)

I think nothing more of it, but then today received a refund from Paypal. So I have my item, which cost me nothing (although it was over 3 weeks late).

Why do I feel guilty?

I bought some seed pots last week, my faves to grow and she didn't put it on the bill. I didn't realise until i got home. Do I go back and give them £3.99 and tell them to pay more attention?

We bought wooden flooring last year. We bought 12 packs (65 Euros a pack) and after we had got it in the car and checked the bill we realised that the girl had only typed in 2 packs.
We had bought loads of other stuff and went through the checkout just before 12pm (everything shuts from 12 - 2pm for lunch) the shop was closed for 2 hrs by the time we realised, we live 2 hrs from the shop and had no intention of sitting in the carpark for 2 hrs to own up! It made up for the faulty boiler we bought there and had to do a 4hr round trip to return! (and some)

Nothing you can do, Two Sheds. When I post an item I copy directly from the address given and if I send for something, I print a label with my address on. You did everything you could, but if she's not registered anymore, then you have no way of contacting her. At least, in your case, the claim system worked!

can you not send the money back to her paypal account, she may not be registered but you can still click on her contact and let her know, honesty will make you feel better, it was a mistake by her, you got what you paid for, she should really have her money. Thats just my opinion as an ebayer myself.

If you feel guilty then donate the money to a charity of your choice, will make you feel dead good and you'll not even be out of pocket.

A good point, except I am out of pocket - it was meant to be a Xmas present but because it didn't arrive in time I had to buy something else.
It's now got to sit around for 12 months till it becomes useful ...

give it as a birthday gift or re sell it on ebay!

hmmm, I would feel bad too, but given the circumstances (and assuming it wasn't TOO much money) I would probably keep it but only because she is no longer a trader and she gave you crap service. If it had been a genuine mistake and you got the impression she was really worried about it or sorry then that would be different matter.

its swings and roundabouts what i would do is in 6 months time if i felt guilty i would post the money back to her but untill then you could always buy a packet of flower seeds and plant them in her honour

Having the mantra 'Honesty is the Best Policy' drummed into me from infacy, I once returned to a shop who had given me too much change and the girl behind the till proceeded to go into automatic defensive mode and argued she hadn't given me too much - it was a beggar trying to actually get her to take her money back!! Rather be out of pocket than wrong me thinks!

Keep it, she messed you about with her attitude and not your fault she couldn't follow an address properly.

I got 'longchanged' at one of those seaside shops where everything is twice the price it should be - we needed a windbreak or would've had to go home (great british weather eh? ) and I didn't feel guilty at all. He gave me change for a £20 when it should have been £10. This never happens to me. I am usually the one who gets given foreign or out of date coins in my change!

I don't think I will be going UP when I'm gone, only DOWN, but at least I'll be warm
