i have just come back from the build and bake course at river cottage. you dont get to keep the oven as a proper clay oven to theior design will take around 4 days to complete as you need it to dry between courses, so you work on four ovens, each bit representing the next stage.

very very easy to make using clay. fired up using split wood, baked a pizza in a matter of minutes, then bread and then put a leg of pork in to slow cook in the residual heat!

lasts for about 5 years if protected from the worst rain and frost. Very good course, would recommend it. You get given the Bread Guide written by their baker Dan, and in the back he shows you how to make the bread oven from clay.
