3 guys go to a motel. The receptionist says the room costs �30. They each give �10. A little later, the receptionist realises that the room was actually �25. She calls the bell hop and sends him off with �5 for the guys in the room
On the way, the bell hop wonders how he'll split the �5 between the 3 of them. He decides to give each guy �1 and keep �2. Therefore each of the 3 guys payed �9 for the room; that makes a total of �27. Add the �2 kept by the bell hop to the �27; that makes �29. What happened to the other �1?

You can get all sorts of funny sums by adding things that should be subtracted......

Hotel gets �25, bell hop gets �2, guests actually pay �27.........
