  • Thwarted Franglaise?

Trousers and I aren't going to France yet? We made an Executive Decision today. Which was really 'monumental' actually!

For those that have no idea what I'm talking about...
Trousers and I were going to sell Holly Cottage and move to The Loire Valley, to a chateau, and look after a beautiful 12 acre estate, with a view to running the whole thing as a beautiful rental holiday enterprise for friends of ours.

With the current climate though, they're in two minds to sell it or not, and therefore, until they're way more focussed, we've decided, for now, to stay here, and continue with our own beautiful lives.

Any of you who are hugely disappointed at that news and want to send hit-men round to the cottage, please send us your details now, and we'll send you our address.
For the rest of you that actually (for some strange reason, happen to like us) this thread is for YOU, in case you want to give us a well-needed Hug.

We're both kind of Happy and Sad at the same time? But it's a huge sense of relief now that the tension is all over so we can get on with our lives again for real.
    Thank you for listening.

Sorry for you Wellie, Financially it would be crippling at the moment anyway. As you may remember Mrs P is French so we spend quite a bit of time over there and had plans for the children to go over with us for a couple of years - but seems impossible as the rent from this place would be worth 50% less in Euros. Trouble is it gets more difficult as kids get older

Anyhow, we've had to back burner it too! I'd have been sad to leave my Garden, workshop and lotties though.

She might go while I re-roof and extend this place ...we've kinda outgrown it...but It all means her working over there etc....grrrr bl**dy gov't...grrrr

At least you know what the decision is now as you say.

      Tough decision Wellie
(((Big hugs))) for you and Trousers, I'm sure you've done the right thing - you certainly wouldn't have gotten the price for Holly Cottage that you would have hoped in the 'current climate'. I'm sure that your dreams will simmer away on the back burner until the right oppurtunity presents itself in the future.

Wellie hugs from me to you both, at least you have now made a decision which I am sure you feel is the right one, moving to anywhere let alone abroad at the moment would be difficult. I always say if its meant to be it will happen. When the time is right I am sure you will do it. Maybe there is something else that you havent found yet.

Oh, what a shame. I guess the timing isn't right though. At least you aren't in limbo any more, and you can focus on this year's planting & growing.

I am sorry to hear this lovely lady, but I'm sure the right thing will come your way at the right time - and this means I can come to the cottage again .... erm, doesn't it?

I am sorry for you both too.
For both your friends and yourselves, now really is not the time to be selling property. Also, if all your dosh is in the UK you really are better off staying put until things pick up a bit.

Everything will work out for the best - it usually does.

(mind you, if you friends are English and wish to return to UK, this is a perfect time to sell up in Euros and convert to £s. Any loss in value would be more than made up for in the exchange rate debacle - assuming they can find a buyer...)

                ((((((hugs)))))) and keep positive.
                Tx

                  C'est la vie.

I'm a bit like Bush when it comes to French, but I think that's right?

Whilst I don't know you particularly well, I'm pretty confident that you had your heart set on le Chateaux dans France, so naturally I'm sad for you. However, having seen what I've seen of Holly Cottage, and the comments people have made having been there, I'm also confident that you, Trousers and the flowerpot family will enjoy staying put for now.

Good luck to you lady, and your dream will come true I'm sure, you just might have to doze a bit longer.

Wayne sized hug coming your way...

Well, when Holly Cottage does sell you can move to France on your own terms and be beholden to nobody but yourselves. To be honest that way may well be less likely to end in tears to boot.

Keep your chins up peeps and we will be down to hug you in person for Trousers birthday in a couple of weeks.

Mind yourselves, both. I was wondering how poor Fert'n'Liza would be able to do Wimbledon on foreign soils, but they'll be able to relax in the comfort of familiar surroundings after all.

Things have a funny way of working out. I hope they do for you too.

Sorry to hear the news- but at least you have focused on something positive now!
Good time of year to make that decision too- you can get on with your gardening and know you won't be abandoning it part way through the season!

next year is another one....you never know what that may bring!

                            Big hugs xx

Bummer!! Well, I suppose you'll just have to visit us to get your French "fix"

For what it's worth, I think you've made the right decision for now. Houses are difficult enough to sell and when you add to that the disastrous exchange rate at the moment it is probably the best thing.

So... looking forward, you will be able to get on with HC garden and not have to worry about leaving it midway through the season.

As everyone has already said, these things have a habit of turning out for the best so, keep your chins up my darlings and don't forget your wonderful wed wine is still here waiting for you

Brace yourselves - I've sent the hug in a mug monster round for a HUGE hug for you both.

                              xxx
