I have dealt with the former type, and (fortunately) never owned the latter, but cat-owning friends have told me that it is 'all true'. My verdict would be that if the cat is that capable of resisting its medicine, it is too healthy to need any<g>
True, my cats hate being dosed, and fight like crazy so I end up giving up!!

Don't have to imagine a dopey Boxer laying on his back, I'm looking at one now. Max will eat his worming tabs without having to wrap them, but then this is the dog who ate a (used) teabag without even sniffing it when one fell on the floor! Boo is more discerning, she likes her bacon/ham.

      That's true!
The very same cat of mine(yes,towel-mummy) a few time had swollen salivary gland(excuse my spelling if wrong).Everytime I took him to the vet he tried to prove that there was nothing wrong with him.
At the time, there were 2 vets at the clinic. One of them was fine(the cat was scared of him like hell-pretty normal),and the other one whom I met just once.I put my cat on the table(he was going to get antibiotic)trying to keep him still(so far most challenging job in my life). As the vet no 2 approached him,the cat went mad and made such a show that even 2 of us couldn't get a hold of him.I would describe him as a claw-shredding-killing machine
      Eh,pets...

Just a tip I forgot about till now! My vet once told me to keep the pills in the fridge! Apparently it is supposed to help diminish the smell and a little of the taste of the tablets! I must admit it appears to work with my old boy Esev anyway; he just hoovers it up with his dinner! As I said the 4 girls are a different matter! They range from not too bad to hard work when it comes to pill time but mummy has her ways and I win in the end. After however, the cats all sit and look at me with daggers in their eyes until dinner time that is then they love mummy again and all is forgotten; till next pill time!
