It was gonna come to him sooner rather than later, Gutted as I love his music - have got about 6 of his albums - from the very early "London Conversation", but my fave has to be "Solid Air" - a truly amazing album for it's time.Rat

I think Bless the Weather is mine, but really, I wouldn't turn any of them off. I really liked the track he did with Sister Bliss too 'Deliver Me'. Thank goodness that when somebody dies, it doesn't all disappear with them.
OH and I are going to keep it quiet tonight, listen to a few albums.
OH's sister went to see him play live a few years ago, he only managed one tune before more or less crawling off the stage, he was in such a state. But had seen him a couple of years before that when he played for hours...Comment

Madderbat introduced me to John Martyn about 7 years ago we only have 3 of his albums though.
Not much I can say but I think he will be sadly missed.

A true genius - he was my favorite artist. I first saw him with Beverly in the late sixties. Last saw him in Worcester a few years ago. Have all 26 of his albums (now on ipod!) Have to admit I had never heard of him until yesterday, when hubby brought home a musician who is (sort of) helping develop the music group in the local Headway branch. This musician (Raymond Turvey) was talking about him and his untimely death. When Raymond left I Googled and found out more. Listened to some of his music - divine. Oh, a personal thank you to Raymond for adjusting hubby's Dreadnought guitar - you are a star

I went to see him a long long time ago at Glasgow Uni. Just him, a barstool and a guitar. He walked onstage, sat down, took out a huge spliff, smoked the whole thing in complete silenceOriginally posted by SarzWix View Post

His music figured big in my teenage years, nearly 30 years ago, and only a couple of months ago I introduced it to my own teenage sons. OH is a huge fan - has all the albums, live and studio recordings and had been to loads of gigs. He dragged me along to a couple of gigs and I have to say I did rather grow to like him. We last saw him nearly 2 years ago after he had had his leg amputated and he played divinely and he was so much 'happier' than the previous gig. RIPComment
